When you are at the sonar station and want to manually use the hydrophes, how do you make it listen to a specific range please ?

Clicking does not make it move. Tried to click/drag everywhere. Using keyboard does not seem to move it but only moves my view at that station around.

I'm wondering the same thing. :/

Go to periscope depth. Go to the sonar suite. Use the pageup and pagedown keys to rotate the hydrophone. I think it's the pageup and pagedown keys?!? Might be Home and End keys, or Insert and Delete keys. One of those combos turns your head, and the other combo rotates the dial for the hydrophone. You HAVE to be at least at periscope depth or deeper to hear anything with them. This is the hydrophone is located on the top deck of your submarine. It's that white horizontal thing that spins in a cirlce near your forward deck gun is located. This device has to be underwater for it to work obviously. People are claiming you have to be at least at periscope depth for them to function, so I would at least try that. Sounds are still a little weak in the game, so I am hoping the mod team will increase the sounds so that ships are a bit easier to hear with them on. Good luck!

Ah thanks.

Experimenting a bit just now it seems I have to be just a bit deeper than periscope depth to be able to hear anything at the hydrophone station. Just hitting the button for periscope depth and hoping you can hear something doesn't work.

It's not page up, page down, insert, or delete, which I know because those are your P-scope controls. If your using it and watching to map to see if anything pops up, know you know why

Im pretty sure the Hydrophone works best below 20m . "Home" and "End" keys turn the handle which oscillates the Hyrdophone. If your running your engines don't be surprised when you get a contact bearing 180. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

LOL yea i have to admit....i fell for that one. Spent a couple minutes going in a complete circle wondering why the bearing degree wasnt changing....shut the engines off and silence. :P

The game just crashed on me (first time ever), and i was JUST sneaking up on a convoy in a bad storm. Spent 30 minutes trying to figure out if 1 single ship was friend or foe ...such low visibility. The game is great, but i just wish the whole manual targetting system worked http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Tell me about it....manual targeting is what makes up most of the simulation aspect of the simulation. Given, finding targets using the Hydrophone / avoiding detection / fuel, battery, compressed air,cO2 monitoring / conservation of ordinance all super add to it....really if your using aim and fire solutions for sake of the learning curve....well....your just missing out. If your using it for sake of solid TDC inputs...well I can't reeeaaallllyyyy blame you there. But trust me when I say that there's nothing more rewarding than a well calculated magazine buster. I cheered aloud dowining my first warship in SH4. Crappy weather + bad TDC inputs + full manual solution finding + a solid hit = more fun than anything Ive done in a video game. Besides maybe giving those strippers money waaay back in Duke Nukem...."Shake it Baby!" "You wanna dance?" lol.....good times. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Radar for Surface, Sonar for underwater, hope this is clear enough until we find out how to deploy the Sonar bouy's or whatever they are called

It is the Home and End keys that rotate the hydrophone http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Once you found a contact, use your scroll wheel on your mouse to fine tune the direction.

That would explain the Ship I have been hunting since Early 44......

hey use home to turn then when the sonar is picking up a ship leave it pointed toward the ship and press the small silver switch and it will show you the range on the dial or you point it towards the ship and press the button that sends it to tdc and it will display the range on the small window that shows orders, ship spoted, sonar contact. you know
