Looks like 50-100lbers strapped together. Maybe it acts like a primitive version of cluster bombs. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Im sure someone that knows what they are talking about will be around shortly.

Whatever they are, the pilot must've had one heck of a time.

P-47's were also equiped with HVAR's as well. but we dont get them here. Nor the clutser bombs shown above. and they have both been discussed here several times. I wanted them bad back in my days as a Jug Driver. The P-47 could also 2 x 1,ooo pound boms on the wing shackles along with a 5oo lbs. bomb on the center line. and we don't have that either. Even though documentation for thier war time usage was produced by the community. Let's not forget that this is partly a PTO sim as well. and while it has aircraft that saw service in multi theaters it should be able to equip that same ordance in this sim. sadly it doesnt. and we'll never get that in this sim.
I also doubt very much that we'll get in SoW either. since there isn't most likely to be ver many American aircraftin the SoW series. But the latter is asumtion on my part. Oleg, 1C/Maddox, Ilya & UBI will have the final say on that. but given the LEAGAL situation.....and the money in roylties that would have to be paid for those planes to be included i seriously doundt that we'll see very much American Iron in SoW.

I'd love the option to ad the twin 50' cal gun pod from the p-38 to the p-47's. lol While possibly not very historicaly accurate...it's be a kick in the pants to see 12 50s hit a air target at full convergance. lol

So it looks then that this was a very early type of Anti-Personal Cluster Bomb. Cheers for the new picture, and yes, it's a shame about the legal problem which means we'll 'probably' never see the '47 in BoB.....but you have to live in hope...cheers, MP.

Nice pic, thanks for sharing.. though not much sure how much we're missing with it... it's an anti personnel cluster bomb, right? Uhm, do we have infantry in the sim...? You see same with the AB series of cluster bomb containers, or Soviet small bomblets. Nice to have but not much of a use if there are no grunts to bomb them with...

As for SOW's 'US Iron'. If there's demand, there will be US planes, and heck there IS demand isn't it? Also keep in mind that SOW will appearantly come in a form of expansion packs, with BoB scenerio being the first title... I am sure there will be a 'Mighty Eight/Reichsverteidigung' addon too, and that cannot be without USAAF fighters.. I am sure financially it would worth to pay some royalty to whoever holding the rights for these old US fighters.

Could be a bomb-loading accident. They were fairly common with standard demolition bombs and that lash-up doesn't look all that safe anyhow!

I have seen similar pictures of field modified weaponry. This P-47 is carrying 3 250lb bombs on each rack.It was part of the 342ndFg 12thAF in Southern France in April of 1945.
