View Full Version : Fully Functional Cockpit?

Here is how i will implement functioning switches in cockpit, same as MSFS but with a twist, first you will need a TrackIR, with the press of a button a small reticule or sight would appeared in the middle of the screen than is is just a question of alligning this reticule with the desire switch( through normal head movement)and make the switch toggle ON/OFF with an assigned key,(a lot of switches would likely use the same assigned key) after the switch is made to the desired position toggle the reticul Off and resume as per normal, the advantage of this would be way better immersion.(I would rather have this implemented in BOB than having a lots of A/C ).

Maybe I'm odd, but I've always considered this more off a gimmick than an immersion aid. I actually find the need to slave my viewpoint and steer my magic mouse hand onto a graphic representation of a button much less immersive than having my actual hand reachout and intuitively strike the key on my keyboard associated with that button without altering my current view. Certainly a real fighter pilot would hardly need to stare down into his cockpit to hit an important switch in a combat zone. He would likely just reachout and flip it out of visual and physical memory of an action he has performed many times before. But that's just me.

I would agree and I would like to see all parts moving. I have been flying with manager 4.0 and turning off the hud display and the only lever that is not moving is the radiator or cowl flap in the hurricane. Please also model the canpoy opening and closed with all movable parts functioning.

Only cockpit moving parts should be those that can give some kind of information by their position and that replaces the onscreen text, like flap and gear position for example. Otherwise, the rest is fake. A.K.Davis is somewhat correct, this idea is a half-disaster, and after the First Time, will never be used even by those who request this New Feature--except for the information giving switches and levers mentioned above.

Anyway, so the cockpit "moves", is yet another Male flight sim Fantasy like pilot "stamina", and the AI will still see in the dark, see through clouds, and see through their own cockpits.

But the cockpit, it moves, and makes an ancient rumbling sound.

hi,
a re programmed version of FB to home cockpit builders could be interest by using beamer and refurnished or rebuild cockpit panel with instruments.
By the way:also possible with new digital flatscreen-instruments instead of original rebuild one.

Normaly every virtual combatfighter should have all this instruments in his mind if(?)it is enough documentated in a user manual.

Anyway: some functions by using the pc-mouse as in falcon4 could be helpfull to learn and practise more about instruments and functions in a virtual WWII warbird.

But this depends also a new advanced and flexible camera view system in the game engine.

at the moment the virtual combat fighter is sitting like a duck in this running cockpit view or with a 'gnomish view' in most of the planes.

Lexx,

I was posting from a simulation perspective. To be able in the BoB to set up a Scramble mission were your pilot runs out of the barracks and jumps in. Then switching to you in the cockpit seat with an open cockpit and starting engine. then rolling to the runway with head side to side movement to be able to see a lil better. Then lining up for take off. When in the air to fly with nothing but the guages like with il2 Manager 4.0 turning of the hud text. This to me would be great. They got the pilot to run out of the plane, why couldnt they in the BoB get them to run to the plane LOL.

What is this IL2 Manager that lets you turn off hud text? I HATE hud text.

Actually, the animated movement of switches and levers does not interest me, but the positions do, and their position should provide information to replace the screen text. Canopy movement is a total waste of programming and moddeling effort, but if canopies were to switch instantly between two fixed positions--open and closed--that would be good enough as many of these planes were flown canopy open at times, and even with no canopy in the case of the early WAR Russians.

Rt hand side look for il2 Manager 4.0. Then after you run set up go to game tweaks plus u can set convergence distance lower then 100.

Open up the "conf" file in the FB root directory using Notepad. Look under [game] for this line:

NoHudLog=0

and change the "0" to "1" Tada! No more HUD messages.

Okay so this "manager" makes editing the conf file easier.

Thanks AK, I have been running with the hud text off and am thinking of doing without engine overheat, as the only problem I have without hud text off is radiator settings because they are a total disaster. Why couldn't they make the Rad settings like prop pitch instead of a cycle key punch? Bizzaro. Pretty much everything else can be done with no hud text, although the fuel leak text message is useful. Thanks!

I just want the continuous WEP messages to go away, or be handled differently.
