About 2 years ago I watched this movie made by another. In his persuit of a P47, the P47 pulled off and incredible move, right on the stall envelope. Gee I thought let me try this.. and I could never get it right...many holes in the ground later.
Oleg and his AI I thought.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif.

BUT.. tonight online..his Royal Highness pulled off the same stunt. Not only that, I did it better coz I lasted approx a full 2 minutes longer against 3 yakkies. Wot a hero http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Dah clip... giving up the chase to avoid the booger behind me. I pull it into a near stall, ground rush.. half way down the plane starts to skew but it's time to roll and rudder, halfway through this it's time to correct for any stalls (being to close to the ground and all, you know !!).. what do you know, the plane 'flops' into a nice pull-out position.

Dah Move (7MB) (http://www.vanjast.com/IL2Movies/MoveMan.avi)

I didn't realise this until I watched the replay... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Freddie? 2 more days and that avatar pic you have is not gonna fly. Check the size limits
thread by AudibleKnight. This 'load it big and resize down' is going bye-bye.

Impressive! I would have thought that was only possible by "UFO" AI.

Now that you mention it - I've pulled that maneuver several times. It's right on the edge, just a slighly bigger control imput and you loose it, but sometimes, you just end up right. Spits are good at these edge-of-the-knife maneuvers.

Hey Freddie Max is right so I made you a proper sig (resized). Looks even better than 'load it big and resize down' thingy you had IMO.

BTW very impressive manoeuver... in many cases opo simply cannot follow it... thanks for sharing.

to me, it looks like a "snap roll" before you recover from the dive, and such quick roll can't be matched by your opponent at such low altitude

as you say, the risk is pulling a bit too much, and the inevitably, stall and crash instead of pulling out

EDIT: what's the downside? i think if you pull too much during the dive, you will lose quite a lot of your speed so if i am chasing you, i will pull out more gently (in other direction) with higher speed, look around and catch up to you once more... after such snap rolls, it may happen that YOU don't know either where I am ... neither where you are going at the moment http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A 'snap roll' as far as I understand is where you kick opposite rudder to your turn direction, 'snapping' the plane in the opposite direction.

In the clip all 3 controls are used to their max, causing the plane to stall, if not recovered at the right time. Halfway through the move, I kicked opposite rudder briefly, neutralised aerolons, and pushed the stick forward. This all in a 'flash' - Not sure how I did it, but just did. (The film is at half-speed)

I did lose sight of the plane, but I knew it was close and above me, therefore easier to spot. The yak/you will have 2 options --- To follow and maybe overshoot or make a hole in the ground, Or not follow (as the yak did) and lose sight of me, which it did. By the time we'd both recovered we were both NOW in an attacking position, thus I'd negated his advantage.

I didn't win this round as I had 3 yaks on me, but it took some 2-3 minutes or so after this, but I managed to get some good shots in before a 'lucky' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif shot damaged my controls.

DKoor - thanks for the pic, I've redone the avatar. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
