This is just an idea, I know some people would really like it and some others would hate it.
First of all I want to make clear that I love playing at this game with all the details it has, realistic settings and planes specifications.
But the engine of Forgotten battles is great and I think it would be a shame just to use it with one single idea (WWII).
I would deffenetly buy a game with the FB engine and some futuristic, completly unreal aircrafts. The way of flying, dogfighting, could be exactly the same but in a completly new enviroment.
Just as an example lets think for a minute at Star Wars.
The maps of this game could be from the surface of different planets: Hoth, Tattoine, or even the Death Star.
Instead of flying an Spitfire you could be flying an X-wing, in the same way the IL-2 type 3 could be replace with the Y-wing and the B-25 with the Millenium Falcon. I repeat, I choose Star Wars just as an example of what could be possible to do, but I would really love to see a game completly original with aircrafts / spacecrafts that I never saw before. IÔ┬┤m sure the designers that work in FB are enought talented to create amazing stuff.
Thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Steve V you forgot that like a certain plane in FB/AEP the death Star could carry along its own escort. Who need 2 I-16's when you got a couple hundred Tie-fighters

I always have just enough fuel to arrive at the scene of my crash.

I have seen this pic posted here long, long time ago. Really impressive. But guys flying that thing must have really big problems regarding blackouts and similar G - related funny happenings. Artificial gravity will be handy IMO. But tough to modell.(BTW anyone remeber threads about flying pencils in TB3 and stuff?-imagine amount of whining in this case).

MY BRAIN!! AAAARRRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!

Heh. Sorry. I think Star Wars should stay a Space simulator, IMO. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif THe X-wing probably flies like a brick, and the TIE has NO flight surfaces at all (unless you turn it sideways) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

What I would like to see, though. Is a 1946 based game with all the planes that were experimental/not produced in time for WW2. Expecially all those German designs. I guess you could sort of do that now, I suppose. P60 & YP80 Vs. 109Z & Volksjaeger.

Later,
Ak

The convergence on those machine guns, cannons and rockets is a little too close. I would think they would be on the order of a parsec or two.

I can already hear the whining about overmodelling and the cross bar on Vadar's fighter being too thick!

Nice job!

That was great!

But with all that damage, how could it still hold 100% fuel?

No way it could more than 50%, tops.

there are two convergences for the main cannon. the first is where the heavy turbolaser cannons meet with the compressed tibanna gas module to form the planet cracking beam, the second is where the cannon is actually converged.

I be the AI gunners are ruthless in that

since you're all interested.... do you know what I've always wanted in a space sim? the ability to play in BOTH void, and atmosphere.

Imagine you could program a jump, jump in system, illuminate some eyeballs and squints (yes I'm an xwing jockey) and cut atmosphere to pound ground.

Then back up into the void, land on a carrier and hype out.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

too bad I cant code. although I heard they're doing a content update for xwing allilance.

Actually, even your car could fly, though probably not very well, if it had enought thrust.

The thrust to weight ratio for a TIE fighter must be like MONDO-SUPER-UBER:whatever a TIE weighs.

Heheheh, nice picture.

I wouldn't really like a SW mod/TC for FB though. It just wouldn't be Star Wars. Like someone said, the next X-wing game (if there ever is one) should be both space and land. Like the Rogue Squadron games but with the ability to travel from space to land and vice versa.

And a content update for XWA? Don't make me laugh. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif Check out http://www.xwaupgrade.com/ , maybe that is what you meant. It rocks.

Target the spaceport of Morroco on Merlin, orbiting Ross 154, engage autopilot. Enter planets atmosphere. Dump radioactives all over the city and get involved in duels with the Police for illegal dumping. Blast other space ships parked at the dock. Perform missions for the Federal or Imperial Navy's and nuke hidden bases on the planet surface... trade cleanly or run drugs, slaves, illegal weapons to systems where they are outlawed. Buy bigger ships with eventual space station destroying weapons...

What you are looking for, eXtra_Corrosiv, has existed for some time... It may seem basic to modern eyes, but what you want is a version of ELITE, or it's sequels FRONTIER or FIRST ENCOUNTERS.

And all of them can be downloaded for free from the author (Joint author of ELITE)'s homepage HERE:

Huge potential here...

But I experimented with a Grython formula and anticipated a demand of at least -3 but I was probably way too wide of the di and tri diode expectations.

I expect that most of us have fallen into this almost mercurial anticipation and not included the basic although many may say essential focal considerations of a roll involving a pencil in a TB-3 navigator's position.

I hope that this makes things clear.

Ahh, but thats not damage, thats the Death Star 2(note the year, StarWars(70s) compared to Return of the Jedi http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ), the secret one that was built over the orbiting the moon of Endor. he he...I'm on occasion into sci-fi stuff. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif
I actually modified cfs2 in those days and used tiefighters and x-wings and other spaceships over the snowplains and mountains at "Greenland" location. I even changed tracers and the sound on the guns.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didnt like the original props in cfs2 so I brought in the old planests from cfs1, wich actually looked more realistic.
