Well as I have time on my hands to carry on with this skin I have been pushing the boat out on the weathering a bit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif For your comments please find a couple of updated pictures..........Most of the weathering is in place now including the engines, but if anyone knows a site showing the stencilling etc i would be pleased to see it..

Hope you approve, unfortunatly screenshots never seem to show them as well as when you fly it... I need to find those Spinners if anyone knows their location as well. most is in place but i need to tweak the tail art etc and blend the odd joint in the skin mapping so you can't see them.. Oh this one is painted as the .303 6 gun version, but the finished one will be the 4 gun version as well as this as an extra http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

ENJOY

Looks very good, but not sure about the definition. Lines look a little too blended... almost washed out, especially the fuselage underneath. Nice job anyway.

Nice Job!

I'm not into skinning at all, but, maybe you should show more 'bare metal' in places of frequently opened panels? (Loading ammo?) Or more bare metal on wing leading edges? Like where the air and all objects in it hit the wing?
Dirt from exhaust fumes (and heat)? (Though these are all a bit hidden in the images you posted)

To sum it up: I miss the scratched paint one would expect in any heavily used equiment!

Seafire, you do not tend to see hard lines on panels, so I never add them, something i have been trying to get over for many a year.... I am and Aircraft Engineer and a Sheetmetal Worker by trade http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, I have spent the last 25 years rebuilding the stuff pilots have done there best to destroy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif, please take a look at a couple of spit pictures i took for someone at work to aid in doing a picture of the aircraft, they show this.
The odd looking one is me looking down the wing from forward of the the cockpit to show the lack of visible detailing, and remember this is gloss that shows it up even more.

Ok, it wasn`t a put down at all, just a query. Probably just my lack of knowledge on aircraft then.

well - it is a known fact that what people like aesthetically, and what an object really looks like, are often quite different...Taylortony I have some of your skins and they are all very good. This one is very nice too.

Great skin, but does it have to many gun ports? mk21 should only have 2 .50 in each wing

Very good job.

The over-emphasized rivets and panel lines that most skinners do is one of my biggest gripes.

All texture artists should go to a museum and look at real examples of WW2 aircraft. You will not see 25mm rivet heads and 1 inch wide black panel lines. All USAAF aircraft (in example) from the P40 on were flush riveted. If you look at the wing of a P40 you see no visible rivets. Ditto the A6M series. The USAF Museum recently put it's A6M2 on display. You can barely see the riveting.

Keep those rivets and panel lines sublte guys...

Yep, some really good skins are ruined by what I call a 'rivet fetish' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Beaufighter looks nice taylortony!

So very true... But, a skin without panellines and rivets showing is going to be boring very very quick. (not many downloads)

I can't think of a better way to compliment the effort from me personally and heaven knows I'm no art critic but when its done and available I will dl it, fly it and add it to my screen shot collection.

1 request though TT, can you give us a better angle on that tail art?

Taylortony
01-17-2005, 11:14 AM
Sure Udidittoo but the tail art markings need redoing, they are on to erm keep me interested in skinning it, if it starts to drag doing little tweaks etc i bang on a detail so it looks in my eyes i am progressing lol

don't know if these help a bit to show panel lines etc But screenshots never show stuff that clear, I still need to define the flaps etc on these 2 shots

Yes I suppose I should have worded it better but I was trying to be polite. I should have said the mk21 only ever had 4 x .50 cal. No 6 x .303 version was made as far as I know.

edit; If you still want to do a 6 gun version you could always change the tail code to A19-

Tony
As it's a RAAF machine shouldn't the roundels have white centres?
Like the code letters?
Not pale blue.

cool thanks for the link, that will help me do the tail art and also thanks for the roundel info, I will add the white centre http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I will do it as a 4 gun as originally planned but keep the 6 gun as a later version, even if they dont fire i think they look cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have also lifted the panel lines slightly and it looks a lot better for it too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
