View Full Version : Wing-fold cheat

Maybe the plane should rip apart at a specific speed, or maybe the wings should snap prior to unfolding.

Being able to fold/unfold the wings makes for a speedy get-away, but I hardly think this was possible.

What? In Flight???

Wasn't that something it took ground crew to do?

Sounds like something out of a cheap sci-fi movie....

I forget which plane it was. US carrier bourne... thats all I remember. Feel free to try it.

You must a enough altitude to fold/unfold the wings without smaking the ground. During the unfolding, you start to regain control at about 75%, at which time you should be cruising at 7-800 kmph. Talk about dive speed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I have tried folding the wing in flight, and they rip off at anything above 200KPH. Ya, its kinda lame that you can do it in-flight, but having them rip off is not much of a cheat/exploit.

Bah. I'll make a track tomorrow. I repeatedly did this and was able to use zoom to get up to 10,000 meters altitude in a few minutes.

Baldie is not lying.

F4u-1C can pull this stunt off (in multiplayer only, I believe, as my wings pop off in QMB)

I've used it once (by accident!) and I outran the 2 guys chasing me, then read a bunch of "WTFs" and "CHEATER!" in the chatbox. Honestly, all I did was hit the wrong button.

Now that I think about it, I was hosting a DF game when I found this. I usually do that to test planes since I can bail/refly/choose another plane to test.

I think it's possible only in multiplay and when you're not hosting. We were playing around with this "feature" and host always lost his wings whereas the others went merrily doing impressive eagle dives...

One thing some of us did beta testing another sim long ago was trying things you don't
normally do IRL just to see what would happen. We were not instructed to do them, we
just did and were able to send in reports on cracks/bugs/whatever-to-name, just things
you should not be able to do. Then when it went gold, there were other changes and the
FM was a mess with holes you could fly a bomber through. Really put me off being a beta.

have done pretty much extensive testing on this subject the day i got PF.
If using the wrong side, i.e. american planes on Blue side, then wings rip off at 200kph or nearabouts. using the correct side, red, you can do this up to standard a/c breaking speeds.

In the val, u can use it to increase your top speed by 10kph as the a/c has a strong climbing tendancy, thus near full control with wings up, quite handy for long flights http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
I've noticed that in corsair or f6 , you gain speed faster in a dive with wings folded, so you can use it to catapult you up to quite ridiculous altitudes very fast.
Did an online test. buddies found it hard to shoot me whilst diving with wings folded, they simply couldnt keep up. also climbing then folding wings back and going into a stall makes you a pretty hard target, as you are quite randomly moving around.

overall, good chuckle , but not historic, and people may use it in dogfight, which may, or may not work to their advantage.
would prefer it limited to when Landed only now ive finished having fun with it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I´m gonna set wingfolding on a slider...try to catch me in climb after that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I´m gonna flap them wings like an eagle http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

word to the wise: the vf-29's absolutely will not tolerate using this bug..either accidently or deliberately. if some1 is found doing so in any way, it will be guarenteed that the offender will be immediately booted and permanently banned from vf-29's airspace

good call there m8.

Also can the trim be brought to a more RL condition?

30 minutes of tossing about trying to get to fly hands off and then only to find that when hands off and speed constant the nose will still fall or climb.

trim . . . then adjust throttle depending on attitude . . . . & bingo , level flight

btw , if it takes you 30 minutes to get Trim sorted , your too slow to ever win any combat

Good call on that... though determining if someone accidently hit the wing-fold could be a bit difficult, and wholly up to interpretation by witnesses.

And no, we're not the same person. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

if the keystroke to fold wing is say...shift+W, or somewhere along those lines, it would be alot less likely to happen accidently in flight than if it was mapped to the 'F' key...follow me? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

in cfs2, u could wind up foldin the wings, but u'd never get em open in time before u went 'splash'. suggest to oleg to make it so that if any plane were to hit the fold wings button, they revert to 'passenger' or 'skydiver' status; there would be no way to unfold them again. the slipstream would have way too much pressure on the motors to get them unfolded. btw, in the rl plane, there was a lever that had to be verified to be 'locked in'..or u'd get sent home in a box.
