I have a question about one of the best fighters in game the La-7. when 46 comes out will we be able to use our skins with the La-7R
also will there be a 3 x b-20 version<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

After the war if I could have tought my F6F to cook I'd have married it.

Not sure about the skins...the tail section and I think the tail itself is completely different so probably not...things would have to be re-mapped.

Not sure if the La-7R was sporting B-20 cannons or not.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

"Best Fighter" of the game....you.ve got to be joking...if anything it's the "biggest joke" of the game, ask around....it's so overmodeled(even Oleg admits that), Im scared that the new version will probably be a mach capable aircraft and unlimited G-rating......

Ever fought with a La-7 at 6000 meters or higher. They are aweful.

Ever convinced a gaggle of La-7s to follow a FW190 into a high speed power dive? They break apart into little pieces.

Its not the perfect fighter but its a great lightweight high power aircraft for low level intercepts and fighting. Its climb rate is definitely higher than any documents I've seen and the turn rate I'm not sure about...but the problems with the La-7 that limited its use were largely issues we can't simulate.

Problems like the cockpit being too hot, carbon monoxide leaks killing pilots, wood construction rotting, etc.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

sorry platypus, but your obviously new here as you dont seem to be aware of the fact that the flight model of the La-7 in the game was based on a high Octane prototype that never went into production(oleg even admited this publically) And 99.9% of the guys like me who've been flying this game since it first came out will point it out as a complete noob plane...the La5 has a much more realistic flight model..call it whining if you must but facts are facts....

The La-7R - when the rocket is out of fuel, it will be just like a normal La-7 but with the extra weight of a rocket motor slowing it down.

It also has less fuel.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

What is the purpose of the LA7R IRL, interception of hi alt planes? An attempt to match the speeds of jet planes with a low cost plane? or ...

From what I've read, I don't get the impression that the Soviets intended any of their prop/rocket hybrids to be combat fighters. The way I understand it these fighters were test platforms for the rockets used to determine the reliability, durability, power, and performance of the rockets under real flight conditions at various altitudes. There was also a Pe-2R, it would have made an unusual addition to the sim.

La-7 Has some weird flight charecteristics anyway. I think all La fighters do except LaGG-3-S4.

That added to the bollocking the CoG would get from a rocket in the tail seems like a bad move.

Will Oleg be moddeling the occaisional catastrophic rocket failure too???<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

According to Bill Gunsten, the Yak-3R could exceed design speed limits in a shallow climb! Same rocket as in La-7R but in a smaller aircraft. Then, the Yak-3R killed its test pilot, Rastorguev "who hated this aircraft" (Gunsten). The rocket blew up. If there's one person who would NOT want Yak-3R in this sim, it would be Rastorguev, if he were alive today. But then, everytime you fly this plane, you are in effect simming Rastorguev in memorandum (sp?). Small consolation for him however. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'd like to learn more about this.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think the La-7R will be something of a lame duck. Its a great fighter but its best attribute is staying at 300-400kph with tons of turns followed by its really high acceleration. But toss a rocket in there and it goes much too fast to maneuver properly.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well, if its a decent reliable rocket, the thrust can be used for on and off for vertical fighting, for altitude gains when most needed, and not just for raw speed. But could the real Glushko operate like that? And the AI pilots -- will they use up all their rocket juices in one long burst? This is something one must consider in truly designing a combat flight sim that offers AI aircraft.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Then Robban 75 tested 4.03 La-7 climb against La-7 from previous patches and found no relevant difference (other than inacurracies of test flying). So since Oleg said, that La-7 climb "was" reduced to "realistic values", but it was not, then current values are not realistic, right?

Hahahaha http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Altough post count can be accumulated somewhere else on the ubizoo forums as well, I'll just pop in and write a little about myself. I've been playing Il-2 V1.00 from the very start. I also joined the forums from that date on. First as 'just' platypus, then as platypus_322sqn (that history is now erased as the UBI forums where renewed some years ago, sorry) and now as Platypus_1.JaVA. We had some great blokes on the forums back then, like the members of the Blitzpigs squad, R_Mutt, Tully, BuzzU, HeavyD and many others wich I cannot recall. That was the time when you really could see that this sim was Oleg's love-baby. He posted every now and then. We hadn't complex engine management and the P-39 was a vicious bastard once it got into a stall. Waaaaaayyyy back then, the community was offerd the oppertunity to 'chat' with Oleg and on another occasion, shoot him down in an online dogfight. He flew a MiG-3 IIRC. We had Carl 'Stormin' Norman as a community manager. Next came Hattrix IIRC, he was a nice fellow. Now we got UBIrazz. He does not appear to be around here much. Hell, I even wept for the pilot's lounge dissapearing. Altough it was an impopular discission, the situation in that forum was getting out of hand. And cheered with the birth of the CWOS forums.

And over the years, there where Countless and Countless whines about people complaining about numerous things. Red people complained about ubermodelled blue aircraft and vice-versa. Oh well, they did that in WWII probably too.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
