Maybe this isn't the right forum for this. I am looking for a good jet sim to compliment IL2:FB. I don't think it's going to be Lomac. I have been trying to get into Flanker 2.5 and I just can't. The Lomac demo has not hooked me either. Listen to the training tracks on Flanker. I feel like that guy sounds when I play flanker. Years ago I played F/A-18 Korea and really liked that sim. I don't know what it had that I am not finding in Flanker/Lomac. I heard Strikefighters project 1 was decent. Can anyone recommend a good jet sim? Thanks, James.

I like SFP1, there's something special about buzzing round in 50's,60's and 70's era jets that leaves me grinning like a Cheshire cat. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
If you can find it cheaply I say go for it, but it's not everyones cup of tea.A friend of mine who was in the USAF said the flight model is pretty inaccurate and he didn't like it much.

For the ultimate realism in jet-flightsims. get the FALCON 4.0 sim and download the 1.08 patch and the SP3 or SP4 if it is allready out.

Hi, Falcon4 with SP4. And yes SP4 is already out.If you do not want to mess with the patches or downloads, wait for Falcon4:Operation Infinite Resolve. It should be out soon. Falcon4:OIR is what IL2:FB is to IL2. It lets you fly the F16 and A10.

And also the only Jet sim that I know of with a dynamic campaign. But learning curve is pretty steep. How real is it? Well you could start the F16 engine following the actual sequences used in real life to start with.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gifI always wanted to try Falcon 4.0. I think that community has done the most to make their sim good. I flew Janes FA/18 for the carrier ops. Something about the satisfaction of grabbing a 3 wire at night that needs to be experienced. Excellent avionics suite in FA/18. Many add on missions and campaign. Plus TSH, Team Super Hornet, has put together an Iraq Pak. I would say its a toss between those two. I don't know much about LOMAC.

I'd recommend Falcon 4 w/ SP4. I installed SuperPak 4 this weekend and the depth and realism is truly astounding. It is the IL2-FB of the modern era. The devotion of that community is awesome.

Will FalconOIR be released? I read today that G2 Interactive will not continue development on the title.

Thank you.

I had run across a demo of Flacon 4.0, but could never get it to run. I will definately give it a try.

Is there a reason to buy Falcon 4 (plus latest updates) instead of LOMAC? I want to try one jet sim.

Falcon 4.0 with SP4 is really hard to match. Its campaigns make anything in FB look just plain silly. The interactive cockpits are light years beyond anything out there including FB.

It's an old, old sim (1998 I think) but has been updated so often and so well that it is still cutting edge.

If you want a jet sim, that's the one.

Other than campaign is there something else that it does better than LOMAC?

I can't make a fair comparison because I've only played Lomac in Demo and I thought that was pure crap. I'm told the final version is better. I kinda got burned out on jet sims several years ago but I keep an eye on Falcon 4.0. I haven't flown it because I have a policy of flying only one sim at a time (my tiny brain gets the keystrokes confused :)).

I would say community, for one thing. There is a Falcon 4.0 community that remains passionately loyal to the sim. Do a Google search for Frugal's World (probably just frugalsworld.com) and you'll find links to the whole Falcon universe.

You won't see the petty, juvenile arguments in their forums that you do here. There is very sophisticated and sometimes passionate discussion and the accuracy of some weapons system models, but I don't recall it dropping to the 12-year-old level you see in here. I've never looked at the Lomac forums, so I can't compare.

Second, the cockpits are amazing (there are many third-party cockpits that are beautiful). With your cursor you can push buttons, flip switches, tune the radios. I don't think they have that in Lomac, at least they didn't in the demo. It's highly immersive.

And campaigns is no small thing. Saying "other than the campaigns.." is sorta like saying, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"

The campaigns are very complex. There are very realistic "mission packages" with roles for each flight of aircraft, all interdependent. Again, I don't know Lomac. In most of the FB campaigns, whether Starshoy's or Paul's there is a feeling of being superficial. The FB campaigns are just not the way air battles were fought but Falcon 4.0's seem very authentic.

I don't work for either so I don't get a commission if you buy one or the other. Hell, buy both and compare em yourself :)

I wish they (Hasbro?) would re-release Falcon 4 on budget over here, I'd like to give it a try.

Go to ebay.co.uk and search for Falcon 4 - there are numerous copies in the 5 - 10 bracket.

Falcon 4 with the current community patches is everything that has been said here and more, definately worth a try.

Strike Fighters PJ1 is good and not as learning intense. Falcon 4, which I haven't mastered to even get off the ground yet, with the service packs is the ultimate jet sim. And only gets better with time.

Just make sure you get the Falcon 4.0 Binder with the cd, not the cd by it's self.. In other words the complete setup, and read, read, read. Then read it all again. :wink2:

WAIT WAIT WAIT, LOMAC. I know the Demo sucked, I hated it too, trust me though, if you have the system to run it LOMAC is THE jet simulation to get.

well i bought lock-on in december, upgraded my system accordingly :-), looked at the wonderful grafix and since then...played fb. i don't know why, but this game does not hook me.
falcon4 is the best jet sim i have ever played. last time i touched it was in 2002 but just thinking of it makes me want to try out sp4. on the other hand, i think the grafix would disappoint me too much after playing new games. however one thing is for sure: if you look for realism and the BEST campaign ever then you should go for falcon4.
