OK!

Last Patch. Of our beloved Sim has been given to us.

Of course the whining, still continues about whats been included/Omitted/modelled incorrectly.

Wouldn't it be nice of The Forum to say what indeed this Sim?/Forum has taught us about.

(A) World war 2. Flying?
(B) Aircraft and other paraphernalia of War?
(C) The Topography of the WW2 Scenario?
(D)The perception of WW2 within the different communities involved?
(E)Have we had any illusions shattered/dispelled?
(F)The fact? That we are. All Stuck up asses! and stick to what we like and Sod/ignore the thoughts of others. Unless they concur with our own Ideas?
(G) Are we most pleased that we have something reasonably representing a WW2 Flight/CombatSim?
(H) Are we happy with the fact that this Sim was first mooted from a less than expected source?

That Developer has given us dozens of planes for nothing, continued to correct flight models 3 years after the sims release. In regards to Russain aircraft, what do you expect? It is a sim primarily made about the eastern front.

jeez topgunbkk, play something else mate! Personally, and please nobody be offended, i like the fact that this game isn't US centred - too many games or films act like America fought ww2 on it's own. anyone played company of heroes? US v Germany n that's it... this game though has covered more than i have seen any other game even attempt. the free updates are another huge plus, and one of the things that comes across, even if it's not perfect, is that the team making this have a genuine affection for what they do. prime example is the lerche, one of the dev team amde that thing in his own time, purely for the fun of it. name one other game where that has happened...

That TopGunBkk is dumb

That no matter how much we get,we, as a whole, will always want more. I guess what I am trying to say is that 4.08 is fantastic and after we get done acquainting ourselves with all of the new features we will want something more. That is the very nature of human kind. One other thing. There are AC modeled that, as a result, learned much about (mostly Russian planes) and I am always grateful for learning something new.

This sim has taught me a great deal (well, inspired me to go find out a great deal) about the Eastern front, which was only ever an abstract concept in my mind until IL2 got me interested.

Being brought up in one of the Western allied powers I was educated through the cold war with the standard films / documentary / opinion that the US and the British Commonwealth did things pretty much single-handed and '45 was a straight fight between them and German forces from D-Day onward.

Since IL2 I've read a lot on the Eastern front and the scale of it (and the scale of the lack of attention it received during my education) is still astounding.

I figure I'm a little less naive because of Oleg's work and that's a good thing.

Don't know if this is what you wanted, but here are my answers

(A) World war 2. Flying?
I learnt a lot about the huge advance of aviation during WW2. On the 102nd COOP server, the 1950 Korean War static campaign is the last one and it rotates back to the first mission set, Khalkin Gol in 1939. From jets back to biplanes - and the realization of how humanity progresses from biplanes to jets within a mere 6 years! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

(B) Aircraft and other paraphernalia of War?
I learnt a lot about aricraft types I heard about before, but never really knew what they were. It's quite fun to see documentaries and then firing up QMB http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(C) The Topography of the WW2 Scenario?
I learnt a lot about the PTO, which I had very thin knowledge about. Gualadcanal is one of my favorite maps.

(D)The perception of WW2 within the different communities involved?
I learnt that there can be many perceptions, but one thing is common in all: loss of human life is a terrible thing.

(E)Have we had any illusions shattered/dispelled?
I thought that fighter planes won the war, but it turned out that recon, transport and bomber planes won the war, by helping the ground troops to win the war. The fighters were a sidenote in history.

(F)The fact? That we are. All Stuck up asses! and stick to what we like and Sod/ignore the thoughts of others. Unless they concur with our own Ideas?
Not really. I don't think suffered from tube vision, and I am very happy to see other people taking a balanced view on things.

(G) Are we most pleased that we have something reasonably representing a WW2 Flight/CombatSim?
Yes, I am pleased. IL-2 and related subjects make a meaningful hobby to pursue.

(H) Are we happy with the fact that this Sim was first mooted from a less than expected source?
Yes, I am happy that an obscure Russian company with a strange man in the lead brought this sim out of obscurity into the world stage. A businessman would have never done that.

(I)We Never Read/Answer Forum Topics
I don't know what you mean with this. Maybe a joke, but I apparently can't get it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EDIT* thanks crazyivan for getting that idiot off the boards at least for a while http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Beat me to it...... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The biggest thing I learned from this sim aside from the technical stuff was that the Russians had some pretty good stuff in the air..... and they weren't pansies on the ground either. I guess because of the cold war.. a lot of that stuff was just left out or kind of glossed over... after all you cant show your "enemy" in a positive light.... but if there was an in dispensable cog in the allied victory I would have to say that the Russian fight on the eastern front had to be right up there....

I also learned that no matter what you do... there is never enough cheese & crackers to go with the whine.

The obvious aside (eastern front operations and aircrafts, history lessons gaines etc...), what this sim brought to me was the possibility to meet quite a lot of nice people, mainly online only, but some in RL too, like our CrazyI here, HarryW (those "old" enough to remmeber the PL might remeber him) and many others from the eastern side of the large pond called the Atlantic Ocean.

Hope I'll meet more for a drink (well, make that a couple of drinks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif. )

Last patch = yay! we've got all the stuff!

Not last patch = yay! we've got more good stuff coming!

What have I learned? Lots! All sorts of things about air combat tactics & strategy, and quite a bit about the performance and history of various aircraft types. I've also learned a fair bit about flight testing.

Nice to see some replies coming in.
It was not meant, as a Joke thread.

"rnzoli".

Great to reply in such a manner.
Sorry about the last question http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif Thought I was being clever. Hope it doesn't put others off replying.

This thread is meant to serve as an appreciation of all assosciated with IL2 with all its Patches/Add ons.

And to This community as a whole.

My Answers!

(A)World war 2. flying?
Goodness I have hundreds of publications about WW2 flying and ground forces. It has been this Sim that has been able to realise much about what I had read.
(B)Aircraft and other paraphernaliaof War?
Thought I had most of this ground covered by my readings. However Russian planes and sub types were not covered particularily well from Western sources.

(C)The Topography of the WW2 scenario.
I hadn't given a lot of time to the Pacific Conflict. As I had always considered it a Sideshow to the main event.
Through the Maps included in this SIM. I have now found a most interesting new avenue to explore.
Even closer to home(Almost) Sevastepol Had intrigued me but hadn't really found out where it was until IL2 came along.

(D) The perception of WW2 within different communities involved?
Well? As I have only participated in this Forum.
It is sort of difficult to answer. Other than the fact tat it seems many only treat it as a simple time filler Game whilst many have a passion. Would all depend on I guess. Your age?what your upbringing/education was

(E)Have we had any illusions shattered/Dispelled.
Was fairly confident I could answer most things on WW2 conflict. But have been humbled by the answers given both In Game and within This Forum.

(F)The fact? That we are. All Stuck up asses! and stick to what we like and Sod/ignore the thoughts of others. Unless they concur with our own Ideas?
Have to say that although I have a particular Arena within WW2. I am interested in. I could not possibly Know it all. Have most certainly been spurred on to learn more than just my Stubborn Fantasies. Also enjoying the communities contributions to the SIM itself With Skins/Missions /Utilities. (Knowing about the War And being Computer literate.) I Salute ALL involved. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

(G)We are most pleased that we have something reasonably representing a WW2 Flight/CombatSim?
Undoubtably! Bought a computer Soley for the purpose of playing this SIM. (Bought a little earlier and was playing MSCFS Was nice at the time. But after the "TWO WEEKS" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif wait was over. The Real deal has never left my Computer/s

(H)Are we happy with the fact that this Sim was first mooted from a less than expected source?

Looked like I was never going to get exactly what I wanted. Then I saw the ads for IL2 in some Mag I was reading. Pics of Sturmoviks blasting cannon shells with the shell cases dropping away. Had me intrigued Microsoft AFAIK. Were surely the only ones capable of producing something like this and yet I knew they wouldn't. I just could not believe that something as detailed at the time could come from a Russian concept http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif

(I)We Never Read/Answer Forum Topics
This of course is my obscure attempt at humour.
And was a built in excuse for anyone wishing to ignore/Can't be bothered answering http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW. If there are more patches or addons to come. I Apologise for inviting comments in way of an Obituary. I know it is not dead But food is required to sustain life. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
