I've searched for a msg I read some time ago that descsribed a way to hear and see ONLY your sqdn/airbase radio chatter. No joy on "General" or "Community" forums.

Could someone reference that post or just repeat the procedure?

I'm doing single player campaigns and sometimes there's just too much traffic. Also, the on screen list of transmission gets in the way of my seeing things outside of the cockpit!

In my searching, I did find out how to turn off all chatter.

I've started copying and pasting hints & procedures into a word file so I don't have to ask people to repeat themselves. Sorry. TIA. OneMug

Go to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and find a file named conf. Open that file and look for the highlighted line below.

[game]
Arcade=0
HighGore=1
mapPadX=0.65
mapPadY=0.40416667
viewSet=40
Intro=0
NoSubTitles=1
NoChatter=0
NoHudLog=1
NoLensFlare=1
iconTypes=0
eventlog=eventlog.lst
eventlogkeep=1
SubTitlesLines=4
ClearCache=1
TypeClouds=1
3dgunners=0
On your PC it should be a 0.. change it to a 1. To get rid of the intro movie change the line that says Intro=1 to Intro=0...

For a more detailed explanation if the config file look in the Knowledge base at M4T (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&cat=7).

There is no real reason to copy a lot of this stuff. M4T's knowledge base is a good place to start.

Strangely enough, since installing 1946 the above settings have reversed on me. i.e. setting the parameters to 0 turns them on and 1 turns them off.....

Thanks for the replies.

I don't want to turn off ALL chatter and subtitles. I've seen a forum message that told of a way to hear ONLY the player's own squadron and base chatter (and maybe subtitles)but cuts out all the rest of the chatter and subtitles.

I can't find that message on the forums or in the knowledge base. Can't find the right key words to get what I want.

They've always worked that way--I think you are just remembering wrong. Look at the variable names again--it's the infamous double negative problem of non-native English speakers translating things into English.

To answer OneMug's question I believe what he is looking for is Radio Silence--which is set in the missions I believe and not a globally set flag.

I made several posts in the "What's So Great About DCG" thread. In either my first or second post in that thread (can't remember which) I made a comment on one of the new options available in one of the latest versions fo DCG. It was an option to hear only your squadron's radio chatter during a mission, and not everyone else's on the map. There are several different options for this, including hearing your squadron's and you escort flight radio chatter, among others. I elect to fly only intercept and sweep missions so far in my campaign in DCG, so I only need to hear what my squad is saying.

Obviously, this is very handy in DCG as there can be an awful lot of aircraft in the air at one time during a mission.

I still manually removed the tower's "abort approaches, go around, etc." sound files, as well as the pilot's sound files requesting to land and going around. Those got a bit lengthy and monotonous.

Ah so. The selection can only be made in the player's DCGs but not with the Dynamic campaigns that the game itself generates? 'Zat right?

So I guess I'll have to go all or nothing on chatter, subtitles, and music. I like the multi-lingual chatter and have learned some meanings but often need the English translation. I'll probably turn off subtitles.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback. OneMug
