Is it really worth using? I've got 3 mates with gunnery skill and it still takes forever.

In GW, you are best off getting on the gun yourself, aim for waterline. Make sure youv'e stuck a fish into your target first though

Thanks, I'll try that.

The reload time for the deck gun in GW is about 10 seconds. This is much more reasonable then the 1 minute time in RUB.

RUB tried to convey the passing of the deck gun ammo from within the sub, to the guncrew topside. A noble effort, but one minute seems like a heck of a long time to be waiting for a reload in a combat situation. I think the GW timeing is more realistic.

Seeing as the shells were stored in watertight boxes, beneath the deck grates on either side of the gun.

This is true, but there were only a limited number of shells stored in the ammo boxes near the gun. Once those were used up, the rest if needed, had to be passed topside via a human chain from below decks.

Ive got my reload time set to 30 seconds and it works fine for me. Its long enough to force me not to risk surfacing my boat until I know that I can finish an enemy off without being attacked.
