Hello all!

New here for posting, but have been reading these boards for about 4 years...

My question is this: I have to buy a new pc so I can keep up with school, my pc is almost 4 years old so time for a change.
In the same price range I can go for a Duo Core 6750 or a Quad Core 6600 for this, now I'm wondering what would you all suggest to buy when I want the best performance in the upcoming BOB SOW?(this will be the only new game I will buy in some time, only other games I play are flightsims aswell: FS9 and Condor)

I did a search here and know Oleg hasn't given us a conclusive answer so just our opinions will do!

The last I checked the Core Duo 6850 (3.0GHz) is the same price as the Quad Core 6600. $279.99 each.

I would suggest Quad Core, since newer games coming out now support multi-core processors. The final decision is up to you though and it really depends on your needs.

Click <here (http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=872&model2=871&chart=416)> for some benchmarks. I selected the E6850 and Q6600, but you can select other processors and benchmarks in the drop down lists.

I'd go with the quad too. It might need a bigger power supply and better cooling but that will be worth it I think. SoW:BoB will support multi-core processors http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thx for the replies! In the meantime i foudn this site http://www.behardware.com/articles/642-8/intel-core-2-e...x6700-quad-core.html (http://www.behardware.com/articles/642-8/intel-core-2-extreme-qx6700-quad-core.html)

It gives a good impression about the effect of duo and quad core's on current games, even Pacific Fighters! Stunning is the fact that performance goes down by using multiple cores, well 0.2% to be excact so not a big difference http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Even MS FSX doesn't profit much from some additional cores so I will probably go for the 6850 or 6750 so the performance on current games which I play most will be better...

I don't have to even read that article to tell you that is flawed. Most likely it wasn't tested in an environment where other software was running (teamspeak, trackir, hyperlobby, etc.). There is a lot of software that takes advantage of multiple cores and more coming all the time.

Oleg did state not long after the announcement of BoB that you should put greater emphasis on CPU power rather than GPU power.

I guess this is because there will be much more in the way of physics modelling, not just the DM/FM, but things like prop wash, air currents, turbulence, bad weather, completely new AI and the ability for the engine to handle many more objects compared to the current engine.

Don't buy intel. AMD!
