I have changed from a radeon 9800 Pro to a HIS x1950 Pro 512mb coolpower Graphics card and I am wondering based on others past experience which Graphics driver is the most appropriate for best performance.I know that Driver selection is most critical with ATI cards to achieve optimal performance from past experience.Help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cat 7.8 works a treat with my 1950pro.7.6 worked well also.
7.7 didn't work to well for me at all.

ps. I use just the driver with ATI tray tools & not CCC.

Caution: Installing the Catalyst software suite 7.8 or 7.9 on a system containing the ATI Radeon™ X1950 AGP series of product may result in either the desktop failing to be drawn properly or the operating system failing to boot. It is recommended to continue using Catalyst 7.7 for this product at this time.

I've found that anything after the 7.4s don't work for me. I use dual monitors, and if I use any resolution over 1024x768 they won't work.

I was using a 21" monitor at 1600x1200 and I would only get a partial screen for IL2.

I just replaced that with a Sony FW900 (24" of wide screen goodness!!!), and 1920x1200 is awesome. I'm gonna 'push my luck' and see how 2304 x 1440 works.

I'll try the newer drivers in a day or so just to see if there is a difference with this monitor, and post hte resulrs here.

I have the exact same card. I just did a re-install of Windows XP so I had to start my installation from scratch. I used the latest driver and it's working fine. You can go ahead and long as you use a driver cleaner and do and good uninstall you should be fine.
