in game? well that dpends. if im going against other jets then the yp80. if im going aginst anything NONjety the the 262 is my choice.

IRL. id say the SABER or the A-10 a friend of mine is one of the top tech's for the A-10's at moddy airforce base in valdosta gorgia "thay call him whor* dog lol" . there GREAT weapons and IMHO should be rebuilt and modernized a bit. nice alternative to the super high priced newer fighters. the F14 was awsome as is the new F22 and joint strike fighter.

English Electric Lightning, Harrier, Buccaneer, JSF, F18...

I dont have an interest in Jets in game form though....

The F-14 Tomcat is nice, but F-22 & F-35 are the best ever.

In game... YP-80 by a longshot followed by the He-162.

In real life it will have to be the MiG-29. It's the Corvette of the fighter airplane world.

Jetz mit gunz. In game the YP-80. Out of game, maybe the Hawker Hunter or the F-86. The Mig 15-17 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif and the 21's are smashing.

Some of the American century-series jets are pretty good but the minute you hang a guided A2A missile off them I'm all yawns.

If I had to have one, you know, if I was forced to fly one or get hurt all the time then it'd have to be...the Sabre.

English Electric Lighting for me. Closely followed by TSR2.

In game I'm really looking forward to the Ta-183 since it's likely to be an interesting aeroplane to fly, though I somehow doubt that IL2 will do it justice due to its lack of Mach number effects. I would expect the T-Tail version we're getting (which is actually an earlier design) to suffer from pitch-up and tip-stalls, which would make it even less forgiving than the Fw-190...

In game, I really like cruising around in a Go-229, but for combat, I'd say the Me-262. But I have a feeling I'm gonna be doing some cruising in a Ta-183, just coz it looks so cool!

In real life, it's gotta be the Sea Harrier!

HA!

The F-4 phantom!
I remember living in V.A. Beach, so close to N.A.S. Oceana that , as they came in for touch and goes or what not, we could count the rivets under their wings! Didn't make the fam bbq any more delicious and the the extra nails holding everything on the walls made movin more time consuming on the prep.
As far as bomber/attack a/c the A-6 has 'em all nailed! Damned good airframe there!

in retrospect I believe it was the exhaust note of those two in particular that made me FEEL the "PAR" of naval aviation!

Oh SNAP! You meant Jets of this sim? Well Hades! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Edit: I didn't think I bought a jet sim! Hades I haven't even got 'round to the Avenger yet! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif<Yeee-aghh!)

I knew a guy who had flown for the CIA in the 1970s - spyplane but I don't know what type - he said that Phantoms had a peculiar smell that you could always tell from other planes. He sure could tell some stories - sometimes they flew for hours with the Lock-On alarm on & they did get shot at a couple of times but either the flares did their work or the SAMs simply missed. Must be scary.

Actually, my favorite isn't in this pic. Tail # 87-0324 is currently the Sq CC's bird in the Springfield IL ANG, and if you scrape enough layers of paint off the canopy rail, you'll find my (misspelled) name. A big-mouth Block 30 with the GE motor, four chaff and flare buckets, and a nail-driving pipper (at least when I left it.)

In game, the He-162, since it's wings don't de-laminate like the real one did.

Grumman F-14 "Tomcat" - defender of the fleet

Mc Donnell Douglas (Boeing) F-15 "Eagle" - the "Flying Tenniscourt"; the A/B/C/D models are great fighters, the Echo maybe is the best fighter-bomber of the present

General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) F-16 "Fighting Falcon" - the "Viper" - your cheap all-rounder; maybe the closest aspirant to the title "my favourite jet"

In Game, the GO.

But from way back, the McDonnel Douglas F-4 Phantom. Rugged, 2 engines, tons of weapons, and good range.

But have to admit I really like the streightforwardness of the F-16's design. More elegant the the F-4 (and its likeness to a broadsword), the F-16 is more like a foil. So currently, my fav is the F-16. But a hard choice as there are many excellent contenders represented here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tough decision but the F-14 Tomcat is probably my favorite.......if it was not for that plane and a certain cheesy film from the eighties my intrest in aviation (and sun glasses) would only be half what it is today.

I feel genuinely sad that its being phased out.

Still have my GI-joe (actionforce) Sky Stryker in the loft. Everytime I see it it still surprises me how big that thing is(or maybe its multiplied in size due to an exact equal dispersion of dust around it)

And I love the sea harrier as well.....I still remember the falklands war live on the news when I was about 4 years old......another sad day wil be when that is finally to be replaced with the new lockheed JSF. Why is it all these modern jets eg raptor and the joint strike fighter look like sh!te compared to the fighters of the 60's and 70's.

I've always had a thing for Russian jets.

These are my favorites:

Mig-29 Fulcrum
Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker
Sukhoi Su-15 Flagon

And of course, the F-14 and F-15. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Interesting thing on Su-15...About a decade ago, here in Florida, I walked into a convenience store and saw a Camel cigarette ad display stand. The ad had large painting of the usual cool camel smoking, and a hot jet taking off from a carrier, "swish" streaks trailing behind the jet to the carrier below.

The jet most closely matched the Su-15....

Double delta wing.
Bubble canopy.
Tail matched.
Twin engines.
Long sharp nose.
...everything said Su-15 except the inlets which were semi-circular (like Mirage III), and of course, the carrier below in the background. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I thought -- well done. The Su-15 with double delta wing was about the hottest looking jet ever made. About the only thing that could make it look hotter would be semi-circular inlets. I was impressed...ad marketing creators who knew about Su-15. I don't think it was a coincidence, the plane seemed to match perfectly. If flight sim Developers and Publishers would show the same creativity, they could grow beyond failed mainstream software products.

Mig-29 Fulcrum
Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker
:
F-14 and F-15

F-14 was the original. The rest are knockoffs. I am supposed to like them (F-16 too). But they all look the same. And all the Sims have them....except the original...F-14.

Interesting and thanks for the info. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I too loved the Su-15's design. It was so elegant and majestic in its own way. A beauty amongst the jets of that era. As far as I know, it was never a Soviet Naval Carrier aircraft though, right?

I always though the Su15 looked a lot better once it had the parabolic radome fitted. I've seen others with a conical radome (I assume these were the earlier versions) and they looked a bit strange.

True, very true. Vigilante was the original superjet OF ALL TIME.

oh hell no, but they did test fly a lift jet version offering short takeoff (not vertical). Nothing NAVY about it though.

Love the SR71. I also have fond memories of that picture of it. It 1986 I was based at RAF Honnington serving my final year in the RAF Police.

Just up the road is RAF Mildenhall. In company with a few mates I went to the annual airshow at the end of May of that year. The SR71 was based there then (I saw it quite often as it returned off missions and over flew our base enroute to Mildenhall).

On this occassion the SR71 flew past and lit off several huge fireballs out of the exhaust with vortexs streaming off the nose strakes and wings. It was hugley impressive but all I had was a cr@ppy instamatic camera so could not catch it.

They have one on static display at Duxford. Superb machine.

Trivia: It should have been called the RS71 (Reconaisnce/Strike) but when President johnson revealed it to the worlds press at a news conference he called it the SR-71 and no-one wanted to correct the President! (Thats the legend I read in various publications, if its not true it should be! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ).
