About ten years ago while backpacking Mt. Mitchel I fell and smashed my ankle on a rather large boulder. I should be able to walk (without my cane) in about 5 years. Now that I have satisfied your curious mind do you plan on taking your negative opinions to the other thread.

That sucks. No need to waste your life being bitter though. You can walk. Some people cant.

So back to the topic at hand. I think this game will be much better over the other ones especially the people in the subs. In the SHs they were always a bit odd looking. I also can't wait to look around my sub since that is one of the things I have been waiting for.

You don't know what you're stepping into.

From my braced down bed with a cath that keeps falling off my wee wee..."moderator may edit if that's too strong" so why waiting for Bubba the nurse to come by and reattach it which I'm positive will suck as bad as it did the first time....Let me add a positive note.

I'm positive that people will speculate until the game comes out.

When the game comes out, regardless of what they hear they will run out and buy it...and if need be finance 4 years of payments to upgrade their computers to run the dang thing.

And I'm positive I'm closer to playing this sub game than most of you, cuz I have to sh*t in a bucket......

Ending on a positive note, my wife gives me sponge baths while I play SH4 and this is the last week I have to deal with this. Then I'll have to go back to work and won't be around to spam the forums.

J.L.Chamberlain, im gonna have to call you out on these two threads as a temper tantrum. I mean seriously, was it REALLY neccessary to make two threads based on opinion? There's already a thread for SH5 discussion.

This looks like a kneejerk reaction to me. So yeah, you don't like reading bad things about the next messiah in sub sim gaming, sorry man, but that's part and parcel of a public discussion forum. Opinions WILL vary. People on forums have been taking a pee in my wheaties for years in devious ways, you kinda get used to it after awhile (probably why im bitter at times, but hey nobody's perfect). Anyway, if dissenting opinions bother you THAT much, take a break from message boards. Trust me, it helps.

well man, i can tell you im not for long around here. I've done this song and dance when SH4 was announced, don't think im gonna stick around for it this go around. I know i'll get sucked/suckered into it, and i don't want to.

Here's another thought. Hanging out in this manner, is eating up on all the pregame hype. And how often does a game really measure up to the pregame hype? By approaching SH5 without the pregame hype building up your expectations, i'll wager you might be more satisfied with the game when you finally get it. Makes the wait go by faster too when your not watching it like a pot boiling.

Thats usually my approach to games im looking forward to. Works for me at any rate, just offering up the philosophy if it helps.

Heck, start all the threads you want on it...it's fun reading all the reponses. If you don't someone else will, already about 12 here and subsim is a riot.

As we have all seen, the announcement that came along with the trailer indicates an actual release date in the first quarter of 2010!

That is AT LEAST five months away!!!

Way too many of you have your sphincters WAY too tight at this point in the game!! …….Pace yourselves!!! ……You have FIVE MONTHS to kill yourselves with self-inflicted constipation!

….After all, you certainly don’t want the frenzy to “peak” too early!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Oh' really? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Here's a bit of bad news. Modding in all likelyhood, will bet set back to the stone ages with SH5. Odds are none of the existing mod tools will work on it. Only two things will be easily modded right off the bat.

1.) Textures
2.) Any file that is a straight ascii text file. (current examples being cfg or UPC files)

Anything beyond that, in all likelyhood, will require a hex editor. Remember, SH5 is all new code. The games file structure might be entirely different then SH3/SH4. The only reason i look like im any good at modding is because ive been messing with the same files/same file structure since 2005, and a super cool tool like S3D. With SH5, modding will, in all likelyhood be back to square one.

Frankly, i'm done ruining the game for myself. My advice with SH5, is to do what everyone else will do. Wait for GWX.

Your killing me man! But flattery will get you nowhere! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

But as mods for SH5 go, it will be interesting to see what develops, or if SH5 will be as mod friendly as past titles have been. I have seen some indication that it may not be mod friendly at all, and some indication that it might even be more mod friendly then ever before. Time will tell, but i have no intention of modding SH5.

I look at it in terms of a song by Arron Tippoon, "you've got to stand for something". Much to my shame, a long time ago while involved in modding in sh3, i compromised what was right once, but only once, and i NEVER forgot that, and it effected me or my decisions where modding is concerned in many ways. But, As the song goes, maybe things would have been better for me if i had done a little more giving in, or a little more backing down, but, meh. Im too hard headed for that.

Watched the trailers, and I didn't see anything new or different--was hoping for a new game engine with everything built from the ground up like the new FPS Battlefield Series. My PC/Graphics card can handle the new technology, but it appears that devs are not going to make good use of it and instead push out something similar to ol-bessy and have that be their new CASH COW.

To be honest when I first picked up SH3 with GWX I loved it form day one. SH4 at first I was not as impressed with, but with a few mods like TM and add-ons like Uboat Missions it made the game truly epic. Knowing what I know about the Silent Hunter series SH5 will be worth playing for sure. You always have the option to Mod too later on done the road, to make it more to your liking. From what I read on sub sim, it sounds like in SH5 you play as a U-Boat captian in the first person making it like a RPG/Simulator, which I think has never been tryed before. You will be able to interact with your crew allot more then before, and it's going to be way more emersive. There trying to recreate what it was like to live, work and fight on a WW2 UBoat. Sounds interesting, we will see how this plays out.

For those not happy SH5 is about U-Boats, we have a great and healthy simulator for fleet boats: SH4. It's nowhere near its potential and is getting better by the day.

On the other hand, the installer for SH3 balks at installing into Vista, a two year old operating system, and the graphic engine is showing its age. It still has the problem of forgetting careers that drove me to SH4.

U-Boat sailors deserve to have a front line sim. Those of us who love fleet boats can hang out where we are with no problem until SH6. If SH5 turns out to be a great sim it wouldn't do any of us any harm to spend some U-Boat time.

But it will be months before any options are available. This guy is just going to enjoy SH4 and not worry about it.

I just started (again) SH4 and have found it cumbersome. I really have had to rely on those that went before me and I am very grateful. (I would think that UbiSoft would also.)

Anyway, I hope to read practical, step by step, journals. Someone mentioned that Guides are expensive and forums like this have taken their place.

I know that SH5 isn't here yet, but I hope that UbiSoft tasks a good writer to play SH5 and do journals for us that encounter the cumbersomeness. Maybe even a forum name of "COB" or "XO".

That would fit a positive thread like this.

Thanks,

You know, i normally stay out of this kind of thing, but as a modder i have to say something. Fanboism of this nature, is BAD. Very bad. Fanboy remarks like this, word of mouth of this nature, is not only GWX's worst enemy, but also endangers modding in general, which is why i bother to respond to this at all.

To paraphrase one of the developers responding to a message board post along the lines of "Why buy sh4 when SH3+GWX is all i need", his response went along the lines of, "everytime i hear that, it drives another nail in the coffin of modability". From posts ive read elsewhere, the ubi dev's arent exactly feeling warm and fuzzy about some things. Word of mouth like this can conceivably cost them sales regardless of theater, which in tern, will promote them to make things much less mod friendly. Is that really what you want?

Considering that we are looking at five months of SH5 related discussion even before the inevitable post-release “wailing and gnashing of teeth” begins; ……I would like to start making a few simple debating ground-rules.

…..And the item I would like to discuss today is the use of the word “Fanboy”:

I am unaware of ANY positive connotation for this word; ….And during the “Roman Circus” that surrounded the release of SH4, I saw it used repeatedly to inflame and polarize discussions to the point where threads had to be locked, and users given “Seven Day Vacations”.

Your Moderators do not like to work that hard!!

I think we can get by very nicely without using words and phrases that are as heavily “loaded” as the word “Fanboy” is.

Klcarroll

P.S. Ducimus; ……I am NOT singling you out here! You simply brought the issue to mind.

Why it may concern them that great mod's hit near release date, I would also hope it would make them realize they better not release another unfinished product. I do think many will wait before they buy and see the results.
If it's bugged, many will play the better mods and wait..that could hurt sales.

But overall modders make them money. Sales would have been nothing for SH4 if not for the modders. That's why they make it that way. It keeps games alive. The great mods like TMO keep a community going for years. Just think if we didn't have great mods, the community would be dead and no one would be around to be interested in the next release. Because of mods they can now come to forums full of people to push sales for the next product...

The work the the GW team has done kept Uboats alive. They ought to send them a check, because of them many people stayed involved and are around to buy SH5.

They should be thankful, not upset.

"everytime i hear that, it drives another nail in the coffin of modability"

A dev may have said it but I dont think I believe that reflects Ubi's true thoughts on the matter.
Modders take the games to where they should have been before they were ever released. They save Ubi time and money.
SH3 stock was an ok game but without mods it would have died long ago and taken the franchise with it. SH4 (stock), for all its 'Hollywood' graphics, is a poor simulation, period. I didnt even bother to buy until the Gold edition came out AND there were some good mods for it. In the meantime I played SH3 GWX. I am greatly looking forward to GWX for SH4. Ive zero intention of buying SH5 right away. Why? Isnt that obvious? Im in my 40's, I have limited playing time and money and Im not about to waste either on the sub-standard simulation we all know SH5 is likely to be when it comes out. My decision has nothing to do with modders of SH4 and everything to do with Ubisofts past reputation of pushing stuff out the door far too fast. Simple as that. All this graphical technology is great, but Ubi has yet to top AotD in my mind.

I personally and this is speaking as an American http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but i have both SH3 with GWX GOLD an SH4 stock,
I only recently added the GWX but time n time again I play the U boats more, now whether i grab SH 5 or not is kinda a guess, yes i know it's around 5-6 months away but I'm not sure my current comp specs are up to speed for it. (I'm not the type of person who runs out an buys the newest graphics card, CPU, or something along those lines, until my current one starts having problems)
when I rebuilt my machine, i upgraded components but also built it to run the software I currently had, because in my opinion what current new games out there I wasn't interested in. again not knocking any games out there that some of you might be fans of, this is my own personal preference, One example, I do flight simming alot, and when Flight SimulatorX was released, I looked at the demo an thought nahh not interested my FS9 (2004) is good enough for me
That said, if it will run an run decent on what i have, yeah I will give it a look.
I personally think, the reason i go for u-boats more is the fact that i was born in Germany :P dad was USAF an stationed at Bitburg AB
