Place that fan in front of the sim pit instead of behind and you will have awesome openpit realism.

That poly pipe frame is an excellent idea.

I've made furniture and even a lamp from PCV. It's lightweight, strong, and relatively cheap.

I have never, till now, seen someone use PVC for a framework of a simpit.
It looks like it will do the job well.
What are you covering it with?

I wish I could say it was my idea - I got the plans from HERE (http://www.rogerdodger.net/).

The plans use a foam laminate for covering - I'm using Luan instead. The key to the pvc is using schedule 40 pipe, a good construction adhesive, and a few well-placed self tapping screws. The framework can be cut and assembled in an afternoon and is very sturdy. I'm going to install my monitor on the front until I can purchase a projector.
