Post any links to upcoming airshows here.. no matter where they are. These airshows will be particularly crucial over the next 5 years or so as the opportunities to actually meet some of these veterans diminishes with each year. If you want ot touch history... and shake hands with heros.. then try to make as many of them as you can... you wont have the opportunity for too much longer.

Last year was great. Lets try to have a good turn out and maybe we can put some faces to the names we see here other than the ones in the "Dont be shy" thread. Last year I met Ivan, Hunter, Fox, Wayno, and Joe. There were other community members there but we never hooked up.. this year lets try to hook up and hang out. At least have a beer together. That would be outstanding.

If anyone else has any airshow info post in this thread.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Last years show included a mock dogfight between an Me-109, Spitfire and Hurricane, aerobatics display from some Harvards, a WW1 dogfight scenario by several replica fighters as well as other period aircraft. Rumour is more WW2 warbirds this year!

A couple of more shows for those in the Texas vicinity:

http://www.cavanaughflightmuseum.com/events_schedule_warbirds.htm

Highlights:"Meet special guest veteran WWII Marine pilot Archie Donahue, one of only seven Marines to become an Ace in a single day, and see the first public appearance of the Museum's Corsair painted in Archie's VMF-112 Squadron colors."

And as far as the CAF is concerned;a really nice oppurtunity to see some old birds-no,not the washed up,toothless strippers down at the "Silver Dollar Lounge"-I'm talking airplanes. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

This one I've been going to for many years. It attracts a 'crowd' of maybe 20,000 so it stays a relatively intimate airshow. Gillespie Airfield is located by San Diego, a historical military and aviation treasure trove. Many retired WW2 military personnel live there including the pilots, crewman and aces of that war. It's no secret many of them attend the Wings over Gillespie Air Show and have done so for many years. There has traditionally been the 'Aces Alley', an area set up just for these living legends. It's one of the few airshows I have been to where you can still easily meet and have a confortable conversation with some of the greatest airmen of WW2. Unfortunately, these men (and women) of the Greatest Generation are in their late 70's and 80's and are dying at a rate of 3,000 a month. Sometimes fellas I met just the year before are now gone. Dont miss your chance to shake the hand of one of 'your' heroes.

Ofcoarse the WW2 aircraft the guys flew are in abundance as are static displays and as always the USO Show put on by one of the local high schools.

Check it out, it's a great time!

A note of Interest:

The International Council of Air Shows (http://www.airshows.org/index.php)
(ICAS) Has a pretty good web site.

And has listing for MOST major show in the US & Canada for the 2006 season.

SOUTHEAST US:

About the only show i'll actually get to attend is this yearRiver Region Airshow (http://www.airshow.maxwell.af.mil/) At Maxwell AFB here in Montgomery. Scheduled for April 7th, 8th & 9th. Actaully it's only about 3 miles from my house and i love it cause i get to sit on the deck, drink beer, and watch P-51's zip by over head low enough to see the pilots inside. lol

Last Show was pretty great. Got some good pics, P-47, The last flying P-39, B-17, B-25, F-84, & a host of other vintage warbirds. I Got to hang out with Mike Chandler from the Thunderbirds, and a couple of Warthog jockies from Mass. ANG.

One of these days i'll get around to puting the pics up here on the forum. And Again, My mission for this show is a Pic of me in the cockpit of a Jug. lol

One Diff. this year i've traded in my 310th VFS t-Shirt for a JG/27 Tee. lol
