De Havilland Heron DH.114. Looks like it has Lycoming engines and cowlings in place of the originals. Those modern engines and cowlings ruin the classic lines of that beauty. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

The Constellation is without a doubt one of the most beautiful along with the DC-6. I love all the vintage airliners.

Absolutely correct, all of it! The 250hp Lycomings even has 3-bladed propellors, while the original 200hp DH Gipsy Queen only had two-bladed propellors.

I thought it looks very much like a P36 or Hawk 75, but the cockpit and gear-mechanism is different and the cowlings are missing (I think they are MG-ports, so it could be a test version)

Now as for the first picture. I really don't expect anyone to get it from the details of the plane, as it is rather poor quality. But I thought the background would lead someone to the answer as it is the US Capitol building that the plane is landing in front of. Something that would be understandably impossible today. Times change.
