View Full Version : So who will fly both FB and PF?

I am just curious if most people are looking forward to PF so much that FB will be forgotten as the original IL2 was. Meaning that will FB die once PF comes out? Or can both sims survive and the users fly both. I know it helps that they will be compatable (A very good thing IMO. But not everyone is interested in the PTO, or the ETO/Eastern Front. So what will you all do when PF comes out? BTW I post at CWOS and this is not a troll of any kind, I am just curious.

I'll be flying both, but because they'll be compatable, thats kind of a moot question. Looking forward to flying Pacific, east front, MTO, and ETO all in one night! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

I think the way 1c is offering PF as stand alone OR add-on is the right decision.

It will keep everyone happy with the choice to fly in either theater.

Initially there will probably be more PF servers, but I think AEP with the bomber patch will catch up pretty quick.

Yeah I can't see where you could miss with the add-on version to have all the versions in one. That is what I am going to do, because I want to pick what front to fly by what I feel like right then without a whole hassle to do it.

I'm sure there are many that will agree with you Copper - and there will be plenty of 'realistic' planesets to fly with.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif You Luft Guy's seem to forget about the early Battles for Norway...

By late May 1940 Allied troops were being evacuated from Norway after desperate battle against troops of the German Gebirgsj√¬§ger, Fallschirmj√¬§ger and Heer. Covering the withdrawal of troops from Norway was a strong Royal Navy presence including the aircraft carrier Glorious. With the Luftwaffe a dangerous threat to Allied shipping, valuable protection was afforded by pilots of the Fleet Air Arm, as well as shore based Hurricanes.

In June 1940, the British forces started to evacuate Norway. Operation ALPHABET, the evacuation of all British and Allied forces from Norway, was carried out from the 5th to the 8th of June 1940. On 3 June 1940, HMS Ark Royal and Glorious sailed to Narvik to cover the withdrawal. On 8 June 1940, the Glorious was evacuated along with RAF squadron personnel from 263 and 46 squadrons. In the early hours on 8 June 1940, five Swordfishes led the 10 Gladiators of 263 RAF Squadron and the Hurricanes of 46 RAF Squadron to the Glorious. The Gladiators landed first, followed by the Swordfishes and were stowed below with the other aircraft, the 6 Sea Gladiators of 802 Squadron and the 823 Squadron Swordfish. Finally 7 Hurricanes made their approaches and every one was landed without undue difficulty. This was the first time that high-performance monoplane fighters without arrester hooks had been landed on a carrier.

The Royal Navy force included HMS Ark Royal and HMS Glorious, cruisers HMS Southampton and HMS Coventry, 16 destroyers and numerous smaller vessels, with which to cover the evacuation convoys. A further cruiser HMS Devonshire was embarking the King of Norway and preparing to sail independently for Scapa Flow. That morning, HMS Glorious detached from the main British force, accompanied by destroyers Acasta and Ardent, she set out for Scapa Flow to sail home independently due to a supposed fuel shortage.

At about 1630hrs the two German battlecruisers, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, homing on the smoke from Glorious' stack, opened fire on the three ships at a range of 27,000 yards. Before any aircraft strike could be launched the aircraft carrier received a direct hit on her forward hangar. Fire destroyed the Hurricanes and torpedoes stored below for her aircraft were unable to be retrieved for the aircraft on deck. The small calibre weapons of all three Royal Navy ships were completely ineffective at that range. By 1720hrs she was listing heavily in the swell. Within 20 minutes the carrier had sunk. Both destroyers were also hit. While laying a smoke screen to shield Glorious, first Ardent and then Acasta were sent to the bottom, the latter managing to damage Scharnhorst with a torpedo fired during her death throes. The wrecks are located 170nm W of Harstad, Norway.

Now we can really fight it out since we will have all the aircraft and ships... well pretty much all.
I can't wait! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

In the long run, both. But for a while, I'll be exploring the aircraft, maps and mission types in PF.

For me, the early ETO is still a primary interest. I also have a wide range of missions, skins and campaigns in FB. It'll probably take time before the community generates these things for PF.

Compatibility means I can fly a B-25 over Europe, I hope. And P-38s, P-47s, P-39s and P-51s in the Pacific. But I don't expect to be flying 190's or 109's over the islands.

I will fly both, though eastern front is my primary interest.I will buy PF because of the whole lot of new planes and maps.Pacific theater will be somewhat a history school for me.Dunno much about pacific WWII aviation.

Even though Japanese planes look incredibly cool they don`t fit my style of flying so USAF will be my online war side.

I wish someone made a P39 used by USAF..that which was sluggish and overall unpopular amongs American pilots.Would be neat to compare it with Russian P39.

BTW if the sea is going to be the only sight 80% of the flighttime, won`t the system requirements be somewhat lower?

I'm glad they are compatible because flying a 109 over Iwo Jima will complete me as a person.

That is not too far fetched. The Japanese did have 3 109s they were sold by the Germans. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif That's what they used for a model to make the Ki61 Hein and they built the DB motor under lisence (even if it wasn't very reliable it was fast.)

I can't wait to get PF & put it together. Carriers in the Med launching P-40s during Operation Torch or the "Wasp" delivering Hurricanes & Spitfires to Malta would be way cool. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Both. I intend to have them together. Reasons: increased playability, more maps, etc. Generally, I don't intend to mix Zeros and Bfs, but on the other hand, Wildcats (as Martlets) flew in the Atlantic, flyable B-25 above Mediterranean, etc. BTW, I'm getting lots of practice topedoing these days. Can't wait PF to be released. Those aircrat carriers will be very interestig targets.

I think many of us will play the FB+PF, i will sure due.

You cant really compare the IL2>FB to FB>PF. It is a whole different thing. FB was basically IL2 PLUS.. whereas PF will be a totally different arena. The new maps alone almost make me cream. Add in the planes and ground objects... WHOOOOO BABY!!

NOBODY will forget FB, I still haven't forgot the original IL-2, I definetly will be flying both, although I'm a fan of the Eastern Front more than the Pacific. It will be very interesting to fly 190's and 262's over the Pacific, how is that any different from the Ki's being flown over Berlin??? I think the most interesting thing is to see the B-29's and the Cherry Blossom Kamikaze plane. No matter what this combo is gonna be GREAT, nobody will forget FB, nor nobody should forget the game that originally started this craze. These games are not just a fad for me, they're here to stay!!!

Hi,

Just depends how much of a Patriot Fest old PF turns out to be http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm sure I'll still enjoy blowing planes apart in my 190 whether over land or water but, this time, I can pretend it's the 190 sent over to the Japanese for 'evaluation'.

Ta,
Norris
