Do you just exclaim it?: S! mannnnnnn....

Or is it "ssssssss".... like a snake?

Obviously it is some kind of greeting or exclamation.....S! My *** is on fire...

But what does it mean?

S = Salute
Other variations:
S!

S! is a short for Salute. Generally its a virtual means of showing respect.

I try and always salute a good fight and a good kill. Particularly if I was the looser of the fight and the pilot who shot me down was honourable and capable in my dispatching. A good S! is always a good way to show respect for their ability.

Sadly its not something that you see as much of anymore.

I would use it to mean "SALVETE!"
Which means "Be Strong / Well!"

MLudner, the "Salvete" I know means "Hello you all" in Latin.

I usually use it as the word $hit. It makes me chuckle when people think I'm saluting them, when I'm really flinging them a turd.

S=Salute

I remember when this was common courtesy online, i also remember the time when it stopped being seen as this and came across more as bragging.

I'm presuming here but i guess it was because those who have flown IL2 from the beginning had become very skilled and were shooting down alot of the newcomers, which came across as bragging, however nowadays if someone S! me, i take it as a compliment... a good fight was had by all, and S! back.

I don't usually say "S", but if I loose a particularly good dogfight, I compliment the victor. Thanks.
