When a person is banned from the forum and doesn’t understand why, how can he find out what he did wrong? If he is banned how can he post a message to find out? I very good friend of mine has been banned and ask me to post this question in his behalf. Nitrous is the friend in question. Thank you for any reply.

Yes... It's a very difficult matter when the moderator doesn't leave his name or a contact email.

Convenient, though.

Send a PM to the mods.... put them on your friends list and send them all the PM. Got GO>MY Space>Buddies and add their names.. then go to GO>MY SPACE> Private messaging.. and crerate the message. I dint ban anyone recently.. although I really rally wanted to..... so dont include me in the message....

Bearcat, it can sound stupid, but can mods from other forums (for example Chessmaster forum mod) ban people here on Maddox Games and if they can is that common thing or rare?

I'm just being curious.

Tell your friend to try deleting their ubi-cookies and then reboot (might not need to reboot could just be enough to restart firefox / explorer) and log back in (make sure they know their password before they do this)

That works for me when I sometimes get a message saying that 'this ip has been banned' ? Of course that was a glitch and it wont necessarily work if you genuinely did something that got you banned.

worth a try though.

Any UBI mod can ban any UBI forum member... maybe they were naughty in another forum....

LStarosta
09-04-2005, 03:28 PM
Bearcat, you can't get into PT's when you are banned, as I unfortunately learned last week. That's why it would be nice if Moderators left an email address in the ban message.

I haven't banned anyone lately either.

But when I do I use the notes feature, and leave my screen name and contact info in the form, that gets emailed to the offending poster. Only time I don't give them my Email is when its a permanent Ban. I have only done that twice.

Also yes if the person gets banned in another UBI forum, it is a Ban in every UBI forum. Not all UBI moderators do it the way we do, so its just best to behave everywhere, and act like an adult. Its not worth loosing the rights everywere else that you care to stay involved in.

Ah, Irony is such a sweet subject.

The best irony is so obtuse that only the sharpest conversationalists will spot it. When they identify said irony and respond in kind, often their response is so obtuse it's taken by the original purveyor (ironer? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif) to be sincere.

Bender sings operatically: *Using words or phrases in other than their literal intention? Now THAT'S IRONY!*

Does a ban also affect ubi.com gameservice? Or does it only count on the forums?

I have no problems in trying it out though. Maybe it could be helpfull in the future if you'd know the answer from the test? I'd be glad to volunteer http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As to the fat Nazi at JFK, WHICH fat Nazi? They are all balding with glasses in New York. Next time, fly through San Francisco. Much more friendly.....ninth circuit court makes sure of that. If ya ever get to Oakland look me up. I'll give you the behind the scenes tour...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Nooooochance. I was fiddling with irony on the internet again. I'm pretty dense but I'm not "explosives jokes at customs" stupid. Mention Semtex at customs and you'll have the entire Smith & Wesson product range stuffed up your nose.

As to the fat Nazi at JFK, WHICH fat Nazi? They are all balding with glasses in New York.

They are aren't they. I mean that one guy can't be there ALL the time. There must be a load of them working the incoming aliens in shifts just to maintain the cheery welcome.

I was taking Opa from Ontario to Nova Scotia, about 10 years ago. We were at the Toronto airport going through customer and security. My uncle's wife(I refuse to call her a-u-n-t as she is a concentration and collective of all evil and pms) was with us.

As the security officer was inspecting Opa's suspicious looking wheelchair, "evil incarnate" starts laughing and in her annoying Fran Drescher voice says, and loud enough to alarm the security at the Chicago airport, "It's not like you're gonna find a bomb on the old man!".

The security guard looked at her and replied "Shut up or you will be removed in an unpleasant way." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Even Opa couldn't stop laughing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Welcome back Andy.

You all need to be careful on UBI forums.

Not so long ago I was threatened with a ban because someone from another (Un-named) UBI forum decided that after a fleeting visit they did not like my avatar.
This (unknown) person complained to a mod of the forum I never visit (or plan to) and I was treated like a mass murderer by that mod until the said avatar was changed. (A simple please change it would have worked, but a veiled threat bought out the 's*d em' side of me)

So all beware the power of the ban.

When your banned a user cannot use pms, in fact they cant even read the forums unless they logout thier username. Maybe a sticky thread of mod emails and community manager email would be a good idea. A bunch of people have been banned lately some global ip ban and banned a whole bunch. I recently wrote to ivan after being contacted on HL by a couple people who have been wrongfully banned. I have been wrongfully banned by a mod in farcry forums for using the report thread feature twice in which ivan had to unban me many times and the farcry mod kept banning me still even tho i never posted there and dont even have that game.

If signed out, a banned user can still read threads so a sticky contact mods by email would be a good feature.

I keep getting a message saying that my IP has been banned from this forum, but it is totally random. I can read some entire threads just fine, but others I cannot even open. Still others allow me to read some pages within a thread but one or 2 pages pop up the IP ban notice.

Is there some interference with a specific individual who may have posted in each of the problem pages which is causing this?

I'm not sure whats going on with it. But I just ran your IP and it is shared with 11 others that have posted to UBI forums. Weird is it didn't bring up your name. Although more than half of them use aol as you do.

Are you dailup,or broadband? If broadband reset your modem/router and get a new IP and see if it fixes the problem.

I'm now looking th elist over to see if your Ip is close to one that has been restricted, here.

Yep there is one that the is the same short the last two digits, and they are very close. I'd rest your connection and get a new IP.

AOL "I believe" changes the users IP address everytime they re-logon......A RPG I moderated we had a terrible time with a select few trouble makers as they'd simply logoff, then right back on with a new IP. Sweeping bans of AOL blocks ALL AOL users (though I'll leave it up to you to determine if you think they should be punished for using AOL in the firstplace http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif).

So Toad's suggestion is all you can do, which should work........sad thing is it does for the troublemakers as well who deliberately use AOL (and AOL will do NOTHING.....it's all about dollars to them....credibility as a responsible provider they don't care about....grrrrrr http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif)
