My machine is down AGAIN!!! I won't bore you with the gory details. I told Bearcat about 2 weeks aga that my rig was exhibitin' "strange behavior", well down it went. I was "alright" the first week... Rented a lot of movies, spent "quality time" with the family etc...

But now I'm startin' to get "da itch" and I mean bad. I found myself last night playing with my HOTAS and pedals with my eyes closed just flying and fighting in a day dream. Kid looked at me like I'd lost it, maybe I have.

Whaddya do when you're on forced withdrawal from the sim you love the most. Short of gettin' drunk n disorderly... what's a guy to do????

Throw down some cash on repairs or buy a new rig.

Geez, man, I always have had a backup machine. It's really necessary for me, because the company's got me 250 miles from home for a six month gig, and I get home every other weekend to spend with my sons (Miramar Air Show this weekend-woot!), so I dragged my primary machine up here along with my controllers and TIR3.

Fact is, I really need to get a TIR4 for the primary so the backup will be able to use the TIR3...it's HARD going back to the POV hat every two weeks!

I cannot imagine what you're going through; you need to convince your Significant Other that the rig must be fixed, if only because it will be cheaper than therapy.

cheers

Well, truth be told, I've tried two Asrock Mobo's to replace and upgrade. Both are RMA. I'm just trying to make up my mind whether to get a used AGP board and wait for Vista, or.... go PCI-E now and hope for the best.

This sucks...

Get off the wallet and upgrade to PCIX now. Vista is a year away and the current crop of new hardware is screamin' fast while still providing a decent upgrade path if needed.

Do it bro...do it now.

Buy a goose feather, yellowish paper and an ink pot, and try to write letters in Old English to invite your friends, with expressions like 'amidst pleasures I request thyne merrie companye, my most loyalfull fellowe, to mine humble dwelling, where shall we enjoye kinde ladyes, divine meals, fancy jiggs gallore and many a tunefull concert of the finest musicke'.

If they come, buy some old dance music, prepare a feast in costumes and eat with bare hands and a pointy knife.

Hi Worf,

I've been in your shoes a few times. I hate it when I wanna fly but can't.

If you want to improve your skill, this is a good time. Try "visualization".

No, it's not a warped joke. This is where your skills actually improve. Most people think their skills improve during fly time but it's not true.

Visulization is used by professional athletes. When the can't reach a certain goal, they sit back for hours and imagine reaching that goal. They concentrate on every little detail.

I have a good BBC documentary on this. There's a young girl who wants to go to the olympics one day for gymnastic competition. She had to do a certain move to advance her skills. After many tries, she still couldn't execute the move.

Her coach sent her to sit and visualize for hours. She did this, imagining in her mind every movement and every reaction, over and over. When she felt she was ready, she tried the manuever again and got it on the first and ever try after. Many athletes use this.

I used this technique a few times. I used to have problems when an enemy was on my 6. I could never shake him. No matter how many times I flew only, I had no success.

Then my machine crashed and I didn't have the software to reinstall. So, during my "time off" I simply imagined every possible detail and the possibilities when an enemy was on my 6.

After my machine was up and running, I went online and was able to shake all who got on my 6. I've also used this for complex manuevers and it worked.

Your muscles don't grow when you are exercising. They grow when you are sleeping. It seems to work this way with the brain sometimes.

Give it a try. What have you got to lose? If you do try it, let me know the results.

I either clean one end of my son, or get bitten by the other.

It's all good.

Every summer I drive out west, rent a motel room, and work minimum wage jobs to pay for my rent and groceries for three months. The one thing I don't bring along with me is my PC. The first summer I did this I nearly went nuts, so I bought a Playstation 2 and rented "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" and Ace Combat 4.

When I returned to school in the Fall, FB/AEP/PF was extra sweet, like reacquainting myself with an old friend. CFS-3 and Jane's WWII Fighters also, to be honest. And then a few weeks would go by and the university would kick us out of the dorms for a holiday and I'd leave my setup inside a locked dormitory while I went to stay with the parents. What did I do then? I installed "European Air War" on an old Windows 98 machine and made the best of my break. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

When I cannot fly I am often thinking of flying. I party with the neighbors, read history or classic lit, enjoy movies, do whatever with the family.

There hasn't been many times when I have been prohibited from flying due to hardware issues tho Worf, so my heart goes out to you. Usually when I can't fly it's because the Mrs is cheesed about something and her seeing my flying, or visiting my the squad's site just enrages her more http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I'm sure the hardware issues will pass Worf http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif - just be ready when the new stuff comes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

I usually climb under my car and try to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. Which in an hour or so, really does need to be fixed.
