View Full Version : BoB development suggestion: English parish churches

Oleg,

Please file this away in "scenery" for the later development of BoB.

As I'm sure you're aware, the English (actually British) countryside is often remarked on for the number of parish churches. Just about every settled area has at least one.

Church towers are a significant landmark and would add greatly to the feel of BoB. e.g., flying low, badly mauled after a sortie, low-lying fog and only church towers sticking up from the murk; a spectacular and exciting way of visual navigation back to base.

There are plenty of resources for modeling them (guide books and web sites) so it should be relatively easy to include a good representative selection.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth of suggestion for what I anticipate will be a fabulous game built on such a good foundation.

It would only need two types of building - a church with a tower and a church with a spire. These are good aerial landmarks. Certain ecclesiastical buildings will nedd to be modelled individually of course, e.g. Canterbury Cathedral.
Cheers!

Ladies & gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. Thankyou for choosing to fly Mandarin Airlines. Those passengers sitting on the left-hand side of the aeroplane please make yourselves comfortable. Those sitting on the right... please look to your left!

Excellent point but we dealt with it last year already. I bet we miss something obvious though! I've tried to list the obvious and not-so (Martello towers etc.) but I have the feeling that there'll still be things we miss.

I don't know if London is to be included in the new game but if it is, a cute detail would be to include the London Underground tunnels- or at least those parts that near the surface. Bombs dropped at those points should cause the whole surface to collapse into a deep pit. Remember the famous picture of a double- decker bus which fell down one?

Talking about distinctive buildings, a number of the aircraft factories fall into that category: the Supermarine plant at Woolston with its flying boat ramp leading down to the Solent; the art deco hangers at Kenley; the sheer immensity of the Castle Bromwich Spitfire factory. I hope some of the individual character of those places is included- there are enough photographs available.

yeah churchs are everywere round this country they are often very distinctive and can be seen for miles around

unless you have certified, verified data and proof of this or have actually flown the planes that stop your whineing!

Yep London will be modelled - it would be a bit of an omission if it wasnt. "English Churches" were explicitly mentioned last Sunday at the presentation if I remember correctly

Ah well if it's already been considered, good to know that great minds think alike. I do hope the map will go as far as Bristol as I'd like to bomb my house :-)

I'm annoyed (previous choice of word had to be edited) that I couldn't get to Birmingham last weekend. Girlfriend's car was being fixed so she had to take mine and I had/have an urgent grant deadline ;-( Otherwise I would have been a fanboy there.

See you all next year where I also hope to see pre-release BoB material/info.

Ian, are you now acting in a more formal role for 1C:Maddox? If so, good decision by C1:Maddox. If not, Oleg, you should headhunt this guy to an official position.

I have no idea what my formal role is - I just help out where I perceive a need or where I'm asked, for both Ubi and Oleg. I can't complain - I get to fly the newest planes and maps etc and be part of something cool. In return I do quite a bit of work.
