I had been flying with the keyboard and mouse befor, but people said the joystick was better. I got a joystick and I like the way it feels and the better control I have when aimin, but....I cannot really get any views. Before I played it like a first person shooter with the wasd keys being my flight controls and my mouse able to look around the cockpet so I could see what was going on all around my plane. Now with the joystick I am stuck to looking only out the front of the cockpet and I always lose planes when they go to a blind spot. How can people fly with the joystick? The mouse and keyboard seem so much easier aside from precision shooting.

Does your joystick have a hat? (or 'HAT', a thing on top that moves around in every direction, usually shaped like a circle) If so, that should be automatically mapped to look around, so (if you have one) you can move it, say, left, and your view will turn that way.
You can also spend 100+ dollars or so to buy TrackIR, which tracks your head movements, so if turn your head left, the view turns left. Or if you have a webcam, you can use Freelook, which does the same thing, (although it's probably a bit less effective) but is free.

Hope this helps.

congrats on getting a joystick http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif.
All u have to do now is set up the hatswitch, which I assume u have one.
Go to controls and set up ur hatswitch views under Snap view.
Soo for like up center- press up on ur hatswitch and soo on.

Think of it as your first tiny step into a much more obsessive world. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Let us know when you have a HOTAS, rudder pedals, headset, TrackIR, and a homebuilt sim cockpit.

It's just a matter of time--you'll end up there eventually. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

By default, both the mouse, the point of view hat switch on the joystick (if so equipped) and the numpad keys operate views. Play with the numpad keys or hat switch and the snap/pan view mode toggle (F9) and see how it feels.

would help to let us know what stick you have and then people might be able to post some settings for you to get the most out of it, like the top hat to scroll round etc, u could still use the mouse too though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
