Um this is a new one on me, It all started when a Catalina attacked me over biscay just outside lorient, I gave it pounding with my flak as it closed in for its drop. I saw a large explosion from the aircraft - but it continued to fly off unscathed, then I noticed it was gently decending...

A quick peak with the external cam and I saw it land YES LAND quite gracefully on the surface of the atalntic, (winds were about 3MS) It came to halt, propellers stopped and it just sat there floating.

I threw my IXC in to ahead flank and swung her bow around in the catalinas direction - not yet sure whether to blast the wounded bird with the deck gun or just give it an almighty ramming, but before i could get there -the event cam showed the plane sinking.. My crew exclaimed "SHES GOING DOWN" as if they were treating the plane as a sinking ship and the 'victory' music kicked in. So I wondered, if the plane sunk form lack of floatabilty OR the sea was too rough for the poor thing.

Im running IUB, did some one add floatabilty to flying boats??

I experimented in the mission editor by placing a catalina and sunderland on the water at 0 kts and at 0 meters, but they either never appeared or sunk when the mission started. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Screenshot would help me believe this tale as I dont think any aircraft are modeled to land in the ocean.

i have seen this in my game, and i am running IUB 1.02. When i damage a catalina instead of going down nose first i have seen it land as described above and then slowly sink. Who knows why it does it?

The bird was probrably fatally wounded by the flack barrage. Although she landed safely, she took on water and sank! Good Job!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have seen this myself in the stock game.

I have remade the flack test from the tutorials into a later war flack mission. I have shot down literally hundereds of catalinas but I have only seen one land once. It was very cool.

Count yourself lucky.
