I loved the chronicles of Narnia series as a kid. I haven't opened one in 20 years until now; I'm reading The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe to my kid. She's hanging in there, although only 5, but she loves the movie that came out ~2005. I hear they are making more of the series.

Anyway, I was wondering why this movie wasn't more commercially successful or critically acclaimed. I thought it was a well done movie and a good visualization of the book. Considering how successful Peter Jackson's LOTR series was, I suspect Disney expected an instant success with Narnia, and it has not materialized as far as I know.

If I had to guess, I would say that it is because the Narinia series is clearly written for the 8-12 year old crowd, while the LOTRs is clearly more dark and adult. Still, my 5 year old and I are eager for more Narnia movies.

They were some of my favorite books as a kid, started with the lion the witch... and then read the whole set, brillient for kids.

Did you know that C S Lewis and Tolkien, were friends, and often used to discuss stuff with each other, when they were writing there repective stories?

For me it was the book. I think there`s more imagination that the mind can generate than even the best Hollywood special effects. Better to read them the book first, then show the film after.

Aimail, you drink in the Eagle and Child? I still have the occasional pint in there, although it's lost some of it's character since the smoking ban!
