Know where I can get those gem-like B5N2s? And, where I can get that Sweet SHOKAKU class flight deck?

Feathered_IV
02-12-2008, 06:13 AM
The B5N's are by Wing Club (Bandai)"L3" or series-3 I think. F-Toys just re-released them under the Wing Kit Collection label, along with some A6M2's J2M3 D3A's Shiden and Shindens. A normally unheard of thing. Usually these are produced as collectors swap items and only see one production run and thats it. They then dissapear forever. You really need to get them when they first come out. HLJ stocks them. I'm lucky that one of the local kit dealers here gets them in for me special like. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Particular gems are the Shiden, F2M2 'Pete' Mosquito and Takara 109's. The bandai Saiun is incredible, with full side console detail and retractable tailhook. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

As for the Shokaku, I'm not sure. HLJ does have this premade though:

Janusz Skulski's website. A true master.
Click every link and weep (I did).

IJN Cruiser Haruna. Scale 1/150 (cos 1/144 is just that little bit too big).

Leit,

is that Bismarck model a plastic kit?

To be honest, that model looks very second rate at best. To many seems and too many gaps. It also lacks a lot of detail.

My uncle scratch built the Bismarck at 1:100 from balsa and brass many years ago. It still looks better than the one above.

If it's a plastic kit, then it might make a nice base kit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have a feeling the modeller has done more damage than good to the kit.

WOW!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Especially at Feathered's links. BTW small correction the Haruna was a battlecruiser not a cruiser (I've seen it classed as a fast battleship sometimes as well).

Schweet! Do a Warspite and I'm in.

The Haruna looks super.

It is only a company test shot of a plastic kit yet to be released in December. It was put on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair last week. It wasn't painted, and clearly was thrown together. Even in this state it is miles better than the best plastic model ships currently available. Most are, frankly, appalling lumps of plastic with no definition.

Skulski is a master. He has published plan books on YAMATO, FUSO, and, I believe, TAKAO. He built a huge scale model of the forward superstructure of the FUSO with incredible detailing. Fujimi is about to release a 1:350 scale line of HARUNA and her sisters. A card model of HIEI is due to be out any day in 1:200 scale. Yum.

If somebody did a plastic model of WARSPITE or RODNEY, I would be in seventh heaven. The way things are going this year---Italeri releasing a 1:35 scale German E-boat, 1:72 scale submarines galore from several makers, etc---I don't think giant ship models in plastic are a dream anymore.

Rodders is one curious looking approach to battle ship design, oddly reminds me of the stretched T-42 destroyers.

Haw! R will never win a beauty contest, but she certainly did dispatch BIS as an opponent brutally fast---one salvo supposedly knocked out both her forward 15" turrets and her main director---OUCH! BIS had just straddled her---if she hadn't nailed her, likely BIS would have badly bashed her around. KGV had lost most of her 14" guns to mechanical malfunctions, like POW at Denmark Strait, so if ROD had been "dismasted" 'twas likely the RN would have had a mad bear by the tail.

Arr, those bloody 'Mericans 'ad 'er cropped by that there Washington treaty. Should of 'ad lotsa guns on the arse end too. Cos o' that there treaty them 'Mericans called 'em 'cherry tree class' 'cos they was 'cut down by Washington'. True.

Yep. US Navy achieved parity with the RN on the cheap. Beatty, First Sea Lord, was appalled. But, when old, misbegotten ROD had to do 'er bit, she dished it out in classic form, no doubt about it. Putting down the BIS was no mean feat. ROD was shooting right ahead so she unplanked her foc'sle with the muzzle blast!
