I estimate the speed of large warships in the sim to be about 25 knots---is this correct? Do you ever intend to program the Japanese warships to use realistic tactics against aircraft, i.e., put over their helms and turn at the fastest possible speed?

Ships have no AI at this point, they follow waypoints as told to do by the mission builder. The only way to get evasion out of them is for the mission-builder to script it.

You can set the ships speed at will, to a maximum for that ship type.

You can even make them go faster than the maximum allowable from the FMB by editing the .MIS file after building the mission. This is particularly handy for operating off of the Jeep carriers! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here is an example of an excerpt of a .MIS file from a single player mission I built with a Jeep carrier:

319714.47 30228.83 120.00

And here is what it looks like after I have modified it:

[Chiefs]
0_Chief Ships.USSCasablancaCVE55 1 0 2 1.0

319500.00 30444.47 120.00
319714.47 30228.83 120.00

-------------------------------------------------

The last number in the list after the coordinates is the ship's speed expressed in meters per second. 20.0 equates to 38.8 knots, which allows for some very realistic flight ops off of the Jeep in the absence of any wind or catapults in the game.

The only caveat with this modification is, if you ever open the mission up in the FMB after modifying the speeds, they will default back to their maximum allowable in the FMB. So, make sure you go back to the .MIS file to change the speeds back if you ever have to change anything in the FMB.

I have a mission where I was practicing vertical take off with engine off and vertical landing at 300 km/h with a C-Hog. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif it was fun.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes sounds like fun I think that you can't open file in FMB after you have edited it manually via Notepad.
Some time ago, I have experimenting with ME-262 dives from over 5000km alt.http://free-vk.t-com.hr/domagoj/graemlins/graemlins_basic/hammer_2.gif
... trying to blast myself with my own MK-108 shells while firing them in dive http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. iirc correctly I achieved around 12000 km/h but I didn't succeded in my original intention.

Yes you can.

I am very fond of the QMB due to having little time for designing large scenarios. Some day, I hope, ships will have AI and will give dive bombers and torp bombers a run for their money in the QMB.
