From the gameplay demo, it looks like FC3 abandon the African settings and moves to back tropical islands. Personally I prefer tropical settings over Africa (although I like both) but I'm worried the fire propagation is not possible in the tropical islands.

Yes, I was originally hoping for something new, but I like the tropical setting.

This was what I always wanted in Far Cry 2.

I like the setting I just hope that the ability to create large fires is still there. That was a fun thing to do in FC2.

Hah. He's getting his sources from the Wikipedia article of Far Cry 3 I think. Wikipedia isn't very credible but we could chatter about it.

However the article is pretyy convincing. Cabo Blanko, the vehicle hinting a location somewhere in the Pacific... Here's a piece from it:

"Far Cry 3 takes place in a jungle island setting in South Africa, with still images confirming location in "Cabo Blanko"[4] via store signs."

and

"The presence of a wrecked Mitsubishi A6M Zero at the beginning of the official trailer would set the game somewhere in the Pacific."

So it is in either South Africa or somewhere in the Pacific but I think South Africa is more possible as it could further tie in with the story already going on in Africa.

Right. Well, since I didn't really know what South Africa really looks like, I searched some picutres http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif .
They do resemble the game from what we've seen so far.

This is not in Africa. Dan Hay stated this would be very far away geographically.

There isn't any tie in to FC2 story line either. No more big political struggles, just a man shipwrecked on a island with a bunch of crazies.

This is what I meant:

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9931/fc3q.jpg

They just released a Q&A and it says its set between the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean:

6. Where is the game set?

Far Cry 3 takes place on the edge of the world, on a tropical island found somewhere at the intersection of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The island has been inhabited by a number of groups throughout the years, but none have laid claim to it officially. Equal parts beauty, brutality, and mystery, it is a lawless frontier where drugs, piracy, and human abuse go all but unnoticed.

Full article here (http://www.gametactics.com/2011/06/e3-2011-far-cry-3-announced-with-qa/)

Guess its not South Africa then.

Maybe the new setting is Papua New Guinea. Coming back to the tropical setting is not a bad idea.

The Africa jungle was fun in F2, but I"m glad they switched it up this time. This tropical island looks awesome. Can't wait to explore it.

What did they do? Jump from Africa to Brazil?
It appears like FC2 with saturation really high.

Quoted from a FC3 Q&A: "Far Cry 3 takes place on the edge of the world"

And here I thought FC3 was near "Down Under", but of course it's really on the edge of the world ,silly me.
I just knew the world was flat. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Looks like it's back in micronesia again. There's the wrecked zero and when he passes through the waterfall there is ancient Indian ruins just like the first games.

Thank god it's in a tropical setting, that's where Far Cry belongs! I'm glad the developers realized that this time.

I liked the diverse and sometimes dirty environments of Africa (desert, steppes, jungle) made it more interesting and it determined if I'd carry the flaregun or not. It's nice to be tropical, but too much becomes mundane. I wonder if there will be extreme weather in this game?

Next time - take FC4 to Afgahnistan
