I know this has been a beat to death topic but I don't think I ever got the outcome of it.

Is there a flyable Gladiator in AEP and if not, will there be?

Would love to fly a Gladiator vs. a CR.42

You need to patch IL2-FB before installing Aces, and THEN install the Aces Exp pack, then patch the Aces Xpack.

I had this issue and realized I installed things in the wrong order. I too was looking for the Gloster Gladiator and it was myinstall order that was the problem. HTH.

The Gladitor that is flyable in the game (Ace Expansion Pack) is the Swedish version J8A.

well, you want to fly a Gladiator, everyone says hey the Gladiator's great, look at the cockpit, oh my....and then you can't find a flyable Gladiator in the game. It's like a secret that the "Gladiator I and Gladiator II" are in the game, but you can't fly them...but oh, can you keep a secret? If you want to fly it choose the J8. Not everyone's an aviation historian http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Only available version of this aircraft is J8A, Swedish version. English version of this A/C is not available (only AI ver.Mk.I, Mk.II). Will there be an patch to make English version flyable, I don't know.

No need to be a historian http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

After all the J8A is not your average Gladiator...

In fact a J8 is a Gladiator II with Finnish titles for gauges and some minor changes.

See, you're assuming people will read the manual. I knew what a J8A was, but Joe Average Gamer didn't. So, the question about the Gladiator keeps on keepin on...

Finnish? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif No mate, they are all Swedish labels on the gauges, the instruments are British and Swedish but mostly German (Metric system).

The only Finnish on the J8 A was the Nationality Markings of the J8A:s that participated in the Swedish Volunteer Unit during Finnish Winter War (F19, Flygflottilj 19,Wing 19). To my knowledge the Finns flew the MKII version that were bought from and donated by the UK. The J8 A:s were licens-manufactured in Sweden. No idea if The Finnish Gladiators were fitted with Finnish labels or instruments.

The cockpit outlay of the J8A looks like a MkI but the performance was that of a MkII as the J8 A verision was fitted with a 840 Hp engine. Because of this the J8A is often mistaken for a MkI which is wrong. The equivalent of the MkI was the standard J8 (no "A").

The difference between a MkII and a J8A (beside the cockpit) was the propeller. Most MkII:s were fitted with a three bladed metal pitchable prop, as for the J8 A it was fitted with a wooden two bladed prop (slightly bigger than was fitted on the standard J8 or the MkI). This was because (as I have understood it) the Swedish pilots preferred the two bladed, they found the three bladed to make the plane shake too much in dives and it made it hard to steady the aim.

You can do it, I've done it, many other fine folks have done it. And you can't see anything in front of you in either plane. Some damn fool left an extra wing there.
Cheers!

As far as I know, this is only the second time that anybody has asked this question since I changed my sig a week after AEP was releaced. After AEP it was asked every day for a week.

I changed the sig 14 times before it could pass inspection of F19 and Capn' Haddock. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
