Very Impressive Gibbage-very nice job !

The P38L had some good specs :

Specs:
Lockheed incorporated the V-1710-F30 engine into the P-38 L. It produced 1,600 hp at maximum power, and produced a normal rating of 1,100 at 30,000 ft. The basic weight of the P-38 L was 13,700 lbs. The normal combat weight was between 17,200 lbs. and 17,600 lbs. With a maximum load, the total weight was 22,000 lbs. Maximum speed at 25,000 ft. was 414 mph, and could reach 20,000 ft. with a takeoff weight of 17,500 in seven minutes. The service ceiling was 44,000 ft., and the maximum range was 2,600 miles. The P-38 L was the final air superiority/strike variant of the P-38 produced. (From http://p-38online.com)

There was a P38 pilot's story of a couple of P38's getting jumped by several 190's. The P38's went into a very high AoA climb and watched the 190's one by one stall out from the steepnes of the climb combined with prop torque. The P38's had their prop torque cancelled out by means of the twin props off setting each other.

Interesting story.

Very nice but I hope they have at least a couple models, like some early version and this later version.

I guess this black stuff on the windshield is just a place holder for the cockpit reflections. Gibbage uses the dark stuff to get the right shape and such. It's just easier to see. It will be transparent in the final version of course

Excellent work, Gibbage!

Now that the B-17 will be in the first add-on, the P-38 is a logical escort fighter besides the P47 and P-51. Now let's hope that the P-38 can be ready for a future add-onhttp://forums.ubi.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Shouldn't be too hard to do I'd think. The earlier models weren't that drastically different.

IS it confirmed that the B17 will be in the first Addon?? IF so, is it the first Free addon, or the following first Pay Addon??

I believe that it has been pronounced that the sequence is:

Patch 1.1b (which we just got)

Patch Final Version(maybe after the Free add-0n???)

Free Addon (with additional acft, p51 for sure, and maybe maps)

Pay Addon (certainly will have new maps and acft, etc)

I have a serious question: What makes one cockpit sexier than another cockpit?? I Do understand that certain aircraft can be Much more aesthetically pleasing(sexy) than others, but I don't have that same feeling about a cockpit.

I'd like to know what others thinking about the definiton/parametrs ofa 'sexy' cockpit.

thanks

Looks great! Can't wait to get my hands on that yoke. And as for the dark stuff on the canopy, I'm sure its done just to help get the correct contours. However, as with all IL2 planes, there should be some level of reflections seen from inside. But not dark like that. More transparent shades I hope. Looks like he knows what he's doing. The free addon will have new maps for sure, cuz we'll be getting that fancy new Tb-3 with I-16 under the wings(STB-3 if i remmber right), and that AC was used only for a few missions ONLY over eastern Romania, wich means that toghether with that Big-BUBA, we should receive also some maps of Constantza Harbour an Cernavoda .(ofc togheter with the IAR80!! No offence to the Dutch, but until I see something that proves Lockheed used the GR1 design I am not convinced. The original choices for the P-38 shape have been public record for years, and the base design looks nothing like the GR1.
If there are technical similarities they may have implemented them on the P-38, but to say they copied it is a bit strong. I would be more inclined to say it looked more like the FW-189 then the P-38.....

Untrue. Some of the original drawings made at Lockheed are reproduced in the book "Lockheed's P-38 Lightning" by Warren Bodie. You can see the evolution of the plane in sketches. The P-38 was an original Lockheed design.

The P-38 was designed in 1938. It's unlikely that Kelly Johnson or Lockheed copied the Fokker, or even knew of it's existence at the time. Also, considering Johnson's later designs, it's rather obvious he had no need to copy from anyone.
