View Full Version : Aces' Artwork: MAT Manager Markings give the combat "edge"

Hi all,

I've been doing some tests and I discovered that the game models the drag imposed by markings. On the whole MAT Manager markings seem "aerodynamically" cleaner and increase the speed of aircraft marginally and therefore give one a distinct combat "edge", wow !!.

I think that it's got something to do with the edges of the markings blending better with the skin. Only had time for a few quick tests with the games' standard markings vs MAT Manager markings but I did observe a general speed increase when using the MAT Manager markings.

what ! ill have none of that talk , your cannon fodder for sure muttering away like that . .

now repeat after me : when you join a DF room everyone is for it, including my wingie so he better watch it as well , all will lose to you & 17 kills per ammo load should be the expected you will RTB , not "hope" too , you will not kill your bandits motor or pilot as you wont have to , because after you shoot off both wings & the entire tail assembly , it will spin to fast to get either !

seriously m8 , chin up !

ROTFLMAO m8,

I'm fine thanks, as long as one can smile then then hope springs eternal. On the other hand I'd trade a smile for a plane made out of a titanium-concrete" alloy and Star Wars blasters any day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

All the best and happy landings.

Additional....

Thanks to EuroSnoopy at Airwarfare.com who confirmed my finding but mentioned that the markings start to peel at high speeds I will incorporate a new option into the v2.30 GUI as shown below. As you know I'm making it an option as I like to offer as much choice to folks as possible.

lol.

While you are on the subject of options, can I slip in a quick question? I just upgraded, but don't seem to have my readMe file anymore.

What is the option 'delete cache sub-folders on exit' for? Why/when would we want to delete sub folders exactly?

Also, when quitting the new version, most of the graphics are copied to the cache, but then I get an error:
Runtime Error '91'
Object variable or with block variable not set.

Any ideas?
I was using v2.11 with no problems.
I'm using Win2000pro.

Hi mate,

First things first, I didn't include the readme in the upgrade download to reduce the size of the file but included the link to my v2.20 online documentation in the release announcement. You can find it here:

http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/IL2-MAT_and_IL-2%20MAT_Manager_Readme.htm

The clear Cache sub-folders on exit option is a peice of housekeeping. It's only relevant to those running game version 3.03 or later. When Oleg kindly include the support to not clear the game's Cache folder to the conf.ini "ClearCache=0" this works a treat but, over a period of time the game added sub-folders to the Cache folder which are no-longer cleared on game exit. The new option, if enabled, will delete these sub-folders when you exit MAT Manager but leave the main Cache folder contents eg. the essential MAT files in place. See the program documentation for a full description.

Regarding the error, did you un-install v2.11 before installing the new version. The new version includes a new MAT Manager program and, as always, you need to un-install the previopus version, Do not delete and MAT or TGA files as the upgrade only inlcudes extra TGAs and MATs and needs those installed by v2.10/v2.11. The error is caused by the program using an old version of the IL2-MAT Manager.ini file which doesn't contain references to options added in the new version. So uninstall MAT Manager using Window's add/remove programs and re-run the v2.20 upgrade installer and all will be fine.

This is the problem (apart from the lack of server space) with having two versions. Folks wanted an upgrade option but it's impossible when doing a new v ersion of the program which contains as it nearly always does, a new ini file to avoid the un-install, re-install program requirement. I did put this in the actual installer text that comes up when one runs it but I can understand folks missing this http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Yep, that was it. There was a duplicate entry in my uninstall control panel; once I had also uninstalled the duplicate, the re-installation went well.

Thanks for the explanation of the clear sub folders option.

As for the topic, I find that mat manager decreases my combat skills. I'm usually too busy admiring my decals to notice the 109 creeping up on my tail.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif,

Glad that sorted it mate, I wish that I could say the same, unfortunately I get blown to bits whether I'm looking at the markings or not http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Cheers
