Hi Everyone,

Sorry for this question, but I am having trouble remembering a movie I saw many years ago as a child.

It was about a US soldier and a Japanese soldier who are on this island to fight each other (I believe) so that their countries can end the war.

I originally thought it might have been "Hell in the Pacific" with Lee Marvin, but after reading about that film at imdb.com I realized the story plots were not the same.

I think both soldiers died from booby traps the other had set and hence neither one could communicate back to their respective homelands of their victory.

Does anyone have any ideas what the name of that film was?

Thanks.

I remember a film that sounds like this one, but didn't the two guys kinda develop a grudging respect for each other in the end, and when one of them became injured the other helped him....? I forget the name too, but it was a good film.

There was a sci-fi thing set on some random planet made back in the 1980's called "Enemy Mine" with a similar theme.

Pretty sure it was None but the Brave. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Enemy Mine was a sci-fi remake of Hell in the Pacific along the same theme. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ahem.... Ahem Ah Say....

I believe you're thinking of this gem starring Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune.

Great film, I think Enemy Mine was based partially on this one.

Actually, Enemy Mine was based on a sci-fi short story published long before these movies were made. It's just as likely the WWII movies were based on the short story...

@ DuckyFluff
I haven't seen that film, but regrettably that is not the one I remembered. It was basically just between the 2 soldiers.

I liked the film Enemy Mine, been years since I last saw it.

The film you Gents are referring to is "Hell in the Pacific". I can't say that I have seen that movie, but the one that I recall there wasn't any co-operation between the soldiers.
They basically were out to hunt the other down and if memory serves me somewhat decently, I believe they both die in the end from booby traps the other had set.

I am sorry I can't recall the actors.

In one scene, I think one of the soldiers had placed poisoned spikes along a tree that when the other climbed up, it had grazed him and that eventually lead to his death.

Hell in the Pacific is a "must watch" movie. Two pilots on an isolated island at first run around trying to capture one another, eventually somewhat working together make it to another island and even go so far as to try and protect each other.

However, there are a lot of deep hates and all it takes is a bottle of Saki and a war issue of Life magazine, and quickly things turn very ugly once more just as a............

Great movie...
