View Full Version : Favourite/Most feared late war Allied fighter ?

From a Red or a Blue perspective which 44/45 allied plane do you rate as most deadly?

My favoured aircraft for this scenario are the Fw 190 D9 44 and the P51 D, but recently Ive added the Tempest V to my list. When it first came out I flew it, without really knowing how to get the most out of it, and did badly. I was constantly Overheating it and was slow in dives - so much that bloody Bf 109s were catching me.

Since then Ive really got the hang of it. Its main draw backs are the overheat and the awful rear view but apart from that its great. I can kill any Bf 109 and the only real worry is the Fw 190 D9. Even then its a fairly close match.

I can only imagine how good a 11lb boost Tempest would be. What we have at the moment is a July 44 Tempest fighting very late 44 early 45 Fw 190 D9s and K4s.

Anyway when Im in it Id say the Tempest V, when Im in a Fw 190 D9 id say P47 D27 Late.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

When flying blue, I pay much more attention to a fast P-47 (killer dive and zoom) and Tempest (4 hispanos in a late-war ride) than I do anything else.

When flying red, I seem to get killed by A9's more than anything else...could be those Mk108's. I don't have too much trouble with 109's at all and the '44 D9 is usually only an issue for me if it's above me.

Ive been killed by an A9 once or twice flying the Tempest V too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Nowadays though, its only the D9 that has enough performance to trouble me. The A9 cant follow a tight climbing turn and the Tempest is faster on the deck and much faster at 2500m.

I feel safer flying Mustang III obviously but you cant mix it up as effectively and 4x .50 cal rarely means one pass kills.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Tempest and P-47D for me as well. Flying against the Japanese, the P-51 might be the best choice.

For me, Spits and Soviet planes are no contender for the top spot, the Mustang III has insufficient firepower and the -38 is just a bit slow. All in all the Allies do have quite a few very good options, but the Tempest and P-47 are a bit ahead of the rest.

When i fly Red , the ennemy aircraft i fear the most are the FW-190's , especially the Dora who is for me the the best prop a/c in the game in term of performances along the P-51 .

I'm also really careful against Ki-84s because even though it's not exceptional at one particular thing , it 's nonetheless very good at everything (speed , manoeuvrability at high and low speed , vertical manoeuvres , accel , climb , good cockpit vision , awesome range , well protected pilot , good armament etc...)

Flying blue , the most feared for me are the P-51's of course and then Spitfire that is modelled generously in this game and is so dangerous at high or low speed ,incredible climbrate and great firepower and overall performances , clearly the best dogfighter in game slightly ahead of 109's IMHO (retains its energy and speed wonderfully , especially in the vertical plan ) and very forgiving .
Most Soviet aircraft are easy preys cause they can't perform above 5000meters and are poor at high speed nor can follow in a dive , except the La-7 who is a real terror at low altitude , it's also one of the a/c i fear the most when i have no choice but to fly below 5000m .Yak-9UT's are pretty dangerous too and the new Vk107 metal Yak-3 is probably the best late war Soviet planes now , incredible performances .<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I forgot about the new all metal Yak 3 - but I dont want to include that as I believe it has no place in a IL2 WW2 context. Maybe it saw service in limited numbers but biased or not I find its performance hard to believe.

The Mustang is great against Japanese fighters. When flying it the Ki 84 is all I fear because of its low level speed. If I see it coming I can excape it but its definitely going to cause me some serious overheating to get away from it. Flying Japanese fighters you'd be amazed how many people in P51s, 47s and 38s want to dogfight the J2M3. I have yet to find a late war Allied fighter which can dogfight it. Maybe Spitfire IX 25lb ?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

tempest for red, d9 and a9 for blue. 109s not so scary, p47s low level performance is not so good, p51 its got some speed, but falls over in firepower climb and acceleration, p38 well good grnd pounder target tug in air combat, spitfire well only late war spit we have is the 25lbs boost variant, which is so feared its banned in most places, hard to fear banned plane.

mynameisroland

The Spitfire 25 lb isnt that scary if you are in a Fw 190 D9. Even a Fw 190 A8 can out run a Spitfire 25lber. And as the Fw 190 cant dogfight, outclimb or out zoom the Spitfire IX - whatever the model it really makes little difference.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

This holds especially true when flying a double inferior plane.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yak-9U. I fear that one most. In all occasions.
Second is Spitfire fear.

Anyhow however dumb it may sound I fear plane with advantage and I do not have a fear of plane in disadvantage, no matter what type it is.
Above all I fear a plane that I don't see in time. Those are most dangerous. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've excluded two types above as those are really exceptional planes all around capable to duel anything 1 vs. 1 on equal terms, especially on "realistic" like servers (WarClouds like).<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I always hated zeroes faster than p-40
liked p-40 tiger logo but wasnt very fast

They experminted with allison engine if put in all p-40's, would of been the fastest plane in the war.

i never feared any plane, its not the plane its the pilot.......

Flying Blue;

Hate P-47's, the last couple of patches have made them killer rides, and there are some really good Jug jocks out there. Tempests are right behind them.

In the PTO, I HATE the F4U-1C (especially flown by the BSS guys! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Flying Red;

190A9, D9, Ki-84 (cant run from them), starting to be wary of the N1K2.

A9 is a gun truck, but if he gets a shot, your kibble.

D9 has the perfomance to really get stuck in and mix it up.

Ki-84 is a killer when flown right and is godawful fast, which can really surprise folks.

N1K2, sucker turns incredibly well, and isnt that slow, dives well, which can be a rude suprise to allied flyers. 4x20mm means its going to hurt if he gets a shot.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I disagree with that statement. It is way to generalistic. A good pilot in a Spitfire IX wont catch me in my Fw 190 D9 so is he as dangerous to me as an average pilot in a Mustang III ?

No he isnt. The plane is a big factor too.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Agree, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gifknowing that as an average pilot.

Maybe this is why good pilots tend to fly inferior aircrafs... I always think that when i down someone with an inferior ride.

There are few very good pilots.

A GOOD pilot in a Spit IX will have 1000m-2000m advantage on you when he dives in at 800kph... And beleive me... you wont see him comming... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The FM2 can sometimes take on an 84 and other Japanese planes in a limited turn fight.

I've flown the FM2 on Zekes vrs Wildcats and was able to shoot a couple down in a turn fight. Why? Because in the heat of a battle, sometimes Blue pilots assume that there is a Wildcat or Hellcat on their tail and they become over confident. Granted, you can't sustain a turn fight for too long but the element of surprise can be enough, especially on the less manouverable Japanes planes.

It's firepower is unequalled (Ki-84c), it's raw power is unequalled, it can sustain an inordinate amount of damage and it can out-turn Yak-3's. Reality aside and IMO, it's the deadliest aircraft in the game.

I dont think the Ki84c is actually used very much online, it was built in such low numbers.

I know its only used in one map on Ukded2, and thats becasue there are Allied B29's to detroy, also its limited in number to about 20.

I love Spitfire VIII vs Ki84b pacific maps, and I find its a very very good battle (I dont mind which side I fly).

I still think the Spit has the edge, although the Ki84b has the speed. Maybe Aces will prefer the Ki84 because of its speed, but in the hands of the avergae pilot, its a close thing.

The Ki84b doesnt seem to be the micracle plane that it used to be in previous patches. Spit VIII's and IX's can take it on equally.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

GUys- I am not taking sides here, but if the Ki84's try to turn with the Seafire L (assuming its an L as the F is bad at usual combat heights), then what Badsight says is certainly possible.

It all depends what approach the Ki84 pilots took.

I am sure they were full of themselves thinking 4:1 versus a Seafire should be easy, and therefore didnt take much care over things, being sure they could risk a turning fight.

Had they taken their time and used proper tactics, I am sure Badsight would agree, he would have been toast.
