Is this possible? when i tried it on the default rf mssion it took my wing off, then again it could well be my very poor flying. Can anyone enlighten me?

I've seen it done - it's in the R.J.Mitchell Il2 film (Maximum Bob?) but despite numerous attempts have never managed it, yeah, down to my poor flying.

T'is not very likely given the current damage model.

It's very tough... due to high velocity of that dam thing.
I achieved that in a Mustang Mk.III after several tries... you must be quite steady and have a nice trimmed plane in combination of gentle approach at the same level... however, it is possible to tip it over by putting your wing in front of the V-1 little wing -you don't need to actually touch it-.
Anyhow your flying has nothing to do with it, I sincerely doubt that it is "very poor" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

Yeah, that's how real pilots did it. They tipped it with the turbulence off their wingtips, no actual contact necessary (or desired).

Does that really work in game? I assumed that kind of thing wasn't really modeled. Ima have to try this!

I remember reading somewhere that in the early encounters the V1, they did fly so that the wings of the aircraft and the wings of the V1 made contact and the pilot tipped the V1 that way. Eventually the Germans booby trapped the wings so that it would explode on contact.
In game I have only ever tipped the V1 once and I was quite drunk at the time, I think that it may be down to luck rather than skill. I managed it in the Mustang but I've been trying it with the Tempest as well.

Made a map with a V1 launcher - set the V1 supply to max, and had a field day... Tipping wings, shooting the wings off, etc

AFAIR, MI5 had turned some German spies and they reported the V1's were falling beyond London. So the Germans reduced the fuel load, to fall on London - which these spies reported. But in fact the V1's were now falling short of London, into open fields.

you can do it. wonder why they bothered tipping it. its easyer just to shoot it isnt it?
blow it up mid air from safe distance.

I usually get pretty bad service from the V-1, so I only tip less than 10%

Shooting at a ton of high explosives traveling at
high speed is not a good idea.

yes, it can be done in IL2.
Over at battle-fields.com (UKdedicated) we had a compotition to see who could tip the most V1s in the least amount of time.

Yeah, by the time you are at a "safe distance" gunnery will be quite difficult.

That's interesting about the booby-trapped wings, never heard that before.

I've never succeeded in tipping one! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

It is true that RAF pilots did tip them by making physical contact with the wings but the more used method was , as someone has said, by placing the wing in front and letting the resulting turbulence tip it.

The Germans then began rigging the V1 so it detonated if tipped so this practice became ever more risky.

However tipping was only attempted if shooting down had failed.

Tipping it is without doubt more dangerous than shooting it down.
But it is clear that this is a very risky business.
Target itself is very small, and although it doesn't maneuver (which makes kill easier) pilot cannot really aim at specific point of V-1 only (wings would make a perfect target no doubt, but they are tiny).
Unless he's shooting from very close distance which is out of question http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

the Bofors was the most effective weapon against the V-1
but in game they are almost impossible to destroy by AAA....and far too hard to shoot down too.....surely they were not armoured in any way IRL....being disposeable and all that?

Because you're out of ammo?

I've seen interview of an RAF pilot (IIRC it was Robert Stanford Tuck) who told how he tipped a V-1 in a Spitfire after emptying his guns to other V-1s.
