Hi to all,
I want to share with you my happiness for to have completed yesterday my first online bombing run with the HE-111. I was on the Gennadich server last night flying for the Axis (I do not remember exactly which map was...LOL by the way, eastern names of the cities are so difficult to remember for me.)
Anyway the map was very large and my targets were a big number of aircrafts parked in a large airbase. The mission was also difficult because the base selected like target was the main one where many enemy pilots were taking off. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So I carefully planned a flight taking off from the more remote western base where the HE-111 was available (the target was in the eastern portion of the map). I loaded 2 fat SC1800 bombs, 100% fuel and then I took off.

My flight plan was to approach the enemy base very high from north instead to flight directly to east, in order to avoid the many VVS fighters patrolling the zone. After more than 30 minutes of flight I spotted my target, all the data for the bombing run were set: Speed, altitude, angulation, so the only thing to concern was to trim my kite for a pass at 3500 mt.

A few minutes before engaging the automated bomb relase, the AA started to shake the air near my bomber, the luck has been my allied because the enemy pilots were flying very close to the ground and they did not paid attention to my fat bird flying over their heads http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I also noticed some axis fighters down below they were keeping busy the enemy pilots from me.

In a few of seconds the bombs were relased but...LOL I ended to miss my target and instead to hit the parked aicraft, the impact point has been missed (I think almost 100 mt), and I Destroyed 2 antiaricraft flak and LOL an enemy pilots who was on taxi on the runway. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think I have not been much precise with the TAS. I was near 20 Km/h over the charted value for a bombing run at 3500 mt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok the fireworks show was over, so I headed for home climbing to 5000 Mt. On my way home near the front line I have been approached by an enemy Yak who tried to fill me with some holes, but my gunners had a lucky shot on him, I saw the yak starting to smoke and gave up the chase.

Finally I made for my airbase and I landed relatively undamaged, with only some holes in the cockpit but nothing more.
Even if I missed my target, yesterday has been my best moment with this game, to be able to complete a mission like this in a server with over 54 players and land safe and sound on your airbase is very rewarding.

I hope to see many more pilots ride the bombers.
I love my HE-111 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

By the way...sorry for my bad english, it's not my language I am Italian.

See you All in the Sky.

Karl.

Good show Karl http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

LoL...yes its a great feeling to be able to return to base in a bomber and after recieving hits.
I was once in a group of 6 bombers with 1 escort fighter and we were all shot down before we reached target. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Yepp...hope to see many more bomberguys enroute to target....I've always enjoyed to get shot down in a group.....

cheers

Sounds almost like a run I did on Warclouds but I was 500 meter higher and hit my intended target http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and NO interception cause everyone was down low. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifIt is sure fun to fly those bombers but it does take a heck of time to climb with those large payloads with He 111.

I'm waiting for my phone line to be updated so I can go broadband and get on line http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif(and truly enjoy this sim against real pilots with real physics modelling) but your succesful He111 mission has convinced me that once I DO get online I'll definitely be up for some bomber flying, something that I haven't even tried much offline. Thanks for the heads up on how much fun it can be!

From what I learnt flying bombers (HE-111 and the Stuka)I can say it's overall a war with your nerves.

Everytime you are asking to yourself if you can do it... if and how many enemies there will be waiting for you in the target zone... if the clouds will hide your target. Then there is the bombing run with all the job you have to do, and in the end do not forget that if you are engaged by a fighter you have to jump in all the gunners position and to shoot like a mad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway when you complete your mission and land safely in one piece is very rewarding...you say to yourself I did it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great story http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Had my first succesful run on Warclouds in a Heinkel the other day too, fantastic. A mere 4,000m but hit the target. I did then, however, draw some angry Mustang attention which I fended off, only to crashland within yards of home field with both engines out and feathered. A succesful landing for some of my crew but not, alas, my pilot.

Must try and organise two or more bombers in formation next time for more cover, and ask for escorts!

Cheers, Spinner

i once tried to do a bombing run in a stuka with sc2000, in 10 min i couldn't get higher than 1000, got jumped on 3 times, first time my gunner killed the enemy pilot, 2nd my friendly bf109 helped me out and in third my wing was blown off http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I scored my first online kill in He 111H-2... left waist AI gunner killed a La-5FN, apparently by hitting the controls or pilot. Second La-5 hit me hard, lost one engine, but some 4-6 (!) friendly 190s and 109s used us as bait and must have had good contact with each other, as every red plane that showed up was swatted from the sky.

I did some terror bombing on that mission with another guy, he dropped bombs when I did. Bombed from 4000m, we were lucky the city was so large because my bomb-aim still is still pretty bad.
There weren't many suitable targets for He 111 on that mission, I believe it was F16 server or perhaps GreaterGreen.

Did some skip-bombing later with H-6 version, much more dangerous because of the low altitude.
I also like taking the IL-2 or Stuka for a ride. Offline I'm more of a JaBo pilot, online bombers are my main ride, although JaBo-in is still a lot of fun as well -me being Bo more than Ja.

I'm getting a collegue into FB/PF as well, I gave him copies of my CD's and he loved it. Yesterday he showed up with a full set of FB, AEP and PF CD's he'd gotten for christmas. He loves the He 111 and B-25, so if any of you bomber-crews encounter us on HL, HermannDeth and Jeroen_R90S are always willing to join a flight. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Congratulations!!

Seems I'm not the only one who likes to fly bombers.

Taking a detour to the enemy base and not going in directly is also very good. Otherwise, you will bes spotted very soon. Most bombers are easy prey for most fighters and you will be shot down before you are even half-way the enemy base.

Nah, there are some good loocing bomber pilots out there... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifNot at the same time unfortunately. My personal favorite is any servers that allow us to pilot via exterior view any planes not currently having a cockpit. Among those planes, the PE-8 bomber is my favorite. Lots of rear gunners and heavy payload. I once was flying with 2 other B-17s. Massive strike force..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Congratulation...
