haha it's gonna be a blast making torpedo runs from the cockpit of that thing.
Flak bursts all around, and you're in a plane that seems to burst into flames if you look at it the wrong way

Another non-update update. I guess we have to wait for C6 to make another video to see something new. Pretty shots and all---or would be if they used a higher res or AA/AI---but no new content. F4F, Betty, Lex.

Actually, they managed to hide the only new thing I could see, the USN CA. Looks like Northhampton Class to me (CA-26, she was sunk at the Battle of Tassafaronga, 30 Nov 1942). The other 5 in her class were, CAs 27-31, the Chester, Louisville, Chicago, Houston, and Augusta. Chicago and Houston were both sunk in action---the Chicago by aerial torpedos, no less.

So now we know US ships for sure are Lexington Class CV (shown), Essex Class CV (Intrepid shown), Casablanca Class CVE (Shamrock Bay shown), and Northampton Class CA (shown).

Try my torpedo bomber campaign to get ready for PF.

http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/nightschpanker/IL2-Tsplash.JPG

Straight and True - a torpedo bomber campaign featuring the IL-2T in 30 action-packed missions.

You need IL-2 Forgotten Battles patched to v2.04 to play this campaign.

http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_campaigns.htm

Attack a wide variety of targets: freighters, barges, dams, submarines, torpedo boats, destroyers, cruisers, battleships and even the mighty Tirpitz.

What kind of missions will you fly?
- Lead a squadron into the German harbors at Dzhankoy and Saki to sink convoys carrying munitions and supplies.
- Search the open seas for marauding destroyers and cruisers intent on sinking our convoys.
- Attack the submarine pens at Dzhankoy
- Fly a daring solo midnight mission to destroy a German dam vital to the Nazi war effort.
- Fly through the early morning fog to sink a damaged U-boat and the milch kuh (milk cow) sent to repair her.
- Follow an oil slick for 20 kilometers to find a crippled battleship and finish her off.
- Take three of your best pilots and fly up a river to sink the barges the Germans are using to rescue their trapped armor and vehicles.
- Fly through a thunderstorm to locate the remnants of a convoy blown on the rocks and destroy it before the Germans can unload the damaged ships.

Use detailed recon photos to aid you in attacking eleven of your targets.

5 readme files with tips on torpedo bombing, comanding AI planes, designer's notes and torpedo damage reports on all ships in Forgotten Battles v2.04

All this and more in Zeus-cat's IL-2T campaign - Straight and True

I hope we get the type 12 since it had fire extinguishers.

Given that it seems one may drop torpedos with no speed or launch alt parameters (so far, AFAIK, as in FB) Bettys should not have to face the same dangers a RL torpedo attack would produce...

Not that that matters, as air action should surely be enough to keep success rates in Bettys very low indeed, for some time, in PF, let alone AAA on low torpedo runs

"Type 1 flying cigar lighter" was what the IJN crews dubbed it...should be, if it lights as fast as a 1.22 P47D10! .50s are going to rock in PF on Bettys!...

Guess this means there will be afresh arguments about "uber 50s" by noobs wondering why Allies shred Rice burners all the time, lol...maybe offset by pilots that will fly ANY US type and df with ANYthing JP!

From one of the lists posted, the CA should be Portland class. My observation regarding the fire director applies after a refit. Portland was a variant class from Northampton anyway.

What we really need are TBMs and Kates, neither of which will be flyable...

And look close, that is the USS Indianapolis. It has been a known "in game" ship for some time.

Indianapolis was a Portland Class CA. I wasn't thinking about the exact ship, just the class.

People like to whine about AI gunners in bombers. I find myself cursing B-25 gunners a lot in game even though its probably not warranted. I try to minimize coming at a bomber from the stern, but I don't always practice what I preach. I wonder if, when PF comes out, if we'll get a whine thread about the Betty's gunners. I bet we'll find a few flyers that like to tail bombers realizing their aircraft don't fly so well after a few 20mm shells go into the cockpit or engine. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

After all, Betty pilot's motto should be "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, and crash in a fiery inferno." Wait, I don't like that last part, I'll say crash like a Phoenix, sounds better.

I was under the impression that this problem was going to be fixed.

Luthier has already stated, no dropping torps above 60 meters. Case closed.

didnt know that...now I do....but any words on speed parameters for fish drops?

I thought luthier only said that the ai wouldn't drop any torps above 60 meters.

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=26310365&m=525001507&r=133004507#133004507

This didn't necessarily mean that it won't be possible for the player to drop torps at any altitude.
