View Full Version : i16 dynamic campaign question??

er i think its a dynamic one anyway :O)

i am running latest version (pe-2)

ok some missions load my i-16 with missiles, when on these missions my i-16 starts jerking around in the air at various speeds compunded by the fact im using a cyborg evo ffb j/stick.

for instance im trying to fly in formation with my squad but at the cruise speed they are going at my plane starts bucking around the sky (around 290) but the ai planes loaded the same dont seem to be avin this trouble. im guessing its the drag from the missiles but its makin it damn hard.

the buckin is so severe its affecting the running of my engine, ive tried trimming (can this plane be trimmed) but to no avail.

when my squad start the attack run they speed up in the dive and firing my missiles is impossible with all the bucking.

tips/help/advice wanted

also a funny thing happened, ive been strugglin to keep planes in my sights during firing but i keep practising on `near` full realism and know ill get better (i want pedals)

THEN last night in a battle i lost my ailerons and then preceded to blow 5 stuka`s out of the sky with just my twistgrip rudder and elevators for control.

i was astonished, ive never acheived a bunch of kills like that in one go so it seems my trouble is mixing rudder with aileron.....what do you think??

I can't remember havin' used the I-16 with missiles.
But I do use an FFB stick, and the buffeting is a thing I know, though it varies... as in a Bf110 I haven't experienced it, but in a Mc200 I have, at some heights, at some speeds... and indeed, AI does not seem to be bothered by it...

What's the weather like?

How's yer sensitivity settings? For aileron axis especially, aren't they a bit too tight?

i thought it may be weather related..... but then i noticed it was the 3 missions involving a missile loadout.

what ill do is plat again and make a proper note of whhats happening and when then matbe it will shed some light.

i just bought a track ir4 and pedals cost even more than that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

could you list your settings so i can compare.

I used the twist rudder for about a year and a half before getting CH pedals and I never had anything like you descibed happen. I would advise returning to default settings for yaw, pitch, and roll. Try recalibrating your stick---I have an Cyborg evo but I rarely use it; the Logitech Wingman 3D is my favorite. I've never had trouble like you describe with the evo. Very peculiar---maybe try support. The I-16 has no trim tabs---can't be trimmed. If you are able to trim it, maybe your installation is the problem.

Go to quickmission builder and load the I-16 with rockets and fly. If it flies straight the problem must be weather related.

In severe wind-conditions ingame u can't even stand still on the ground. I have experienced the same flying in turbulence with I-16 and other planes.

The fact that ai doesn't seem affected may depend on that they are to a lesser degree. Perhaps they would all crash otherwise?

Me thinks it's weather related.
Tried the I-16 on the Crimea map in the Full Mission Builder, loaded with missiles.

No problems at all, untill I change weather conditions: Rain/Snow.
Below 300m it's buffeting all over, engine's struggling to keep runnin'...
Between 300 and 900m all is quiet, then it starts all over again...

Here are my stick settings, though I doubt they'll be usefull, as I got a very different stick (Guillemot FFB) and home-built rudder pedals...

Rudder:
1X=0 29 40 48 57 66 76 86 93 95 100 0
Aileron:
1X2=0 27 38 52 63 69 75 83 88 93 100 0
Pitch:
1Y2=0 28 44 55 62 70 79 88 93 96 100 0

I really dislike the turbulence modelling in this sim. It's either all or nothing, and "all" is FAR too high-frequency and unlike turbulence, leading to confused reports like this. A hot sunny day with cumulus clouds is ALWAYS bumpy in real life, but it's smooth as glass in the sim. We should get random bumps up/down/left/right every once in a while, moreso when flying in/crossing through the thermals under clouds; the wings should have a tendancy to dip of their own accord every so often and the nose should wander side to side a bit in turns on a windy day; we should gain a bit of altitude flying under fair-weather cumulus clouds if we're not paying attention, and a host of other little things. It's probably less pronounced in warbirds than it is in the Cessnas I've flown in, but it should still be there.

The rumor is that Storm of War features a full dynamic weather system with air currents and thermals, though. I really hope they can improve on what I see as the most important problem with the feeling of flight in the sim.

You are missing one number in the line above. That error was introduced with one of the latest patches.
You should add a 0 at the end of that line.
It should be like this:
Z=0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 0

Some players have experienced a reduced 'wobbling' when they did that.

thanks guys

ill sort that `0` out and test to see if its weather. im guessing it must be as your explanation of the effects is exactly how it is, but ill double check.
