README
Pacific Fighters v.3.01 (3.01m)

Warning

The current version 3.01 (3.01m) is not compatible with the previous versions of the game when playing via network. Both the server and client must have appropriate versions of the game in order to connect.

For your convenience we€ve introduced different version numbers for the stand-alone installation and the joint FB+AEP+PF install.
3.01 €" for stand alone PF
3.01m €" for FB+AEP+PF
And of course, the versions 3.01 and 3.01m are not compatible with each other playing via network.

Notes on the Patch Installation

This 3.01 patch may be installed over the previous 3.0 version. The 3.01m version can only be installed over the merged PF 3.0 install. To install the patch, download and run PF_patch301.exe (PF_patch301m.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions.

In this version we are also offering the players to test a new method of running the game. This new method should increase the game€s performance. Both the old and the new methods are available at any time, and are fully compatible online.

If you want to test this new method, install PF_patch301.exe (PF_patch301m.exe) first. After the installation, run PF_patch301_new.exe (PF_patch301m_new.exe). After that, run the pf_new.exe (il2fb_new.exe) executable in your PF game folder.

You can always run the game using the tried-and-true old method using the old shortcuts or pf.exe in the game folder. These remain unchanged. The new executable is not added to the start or the autorun menus in this version, but will be added there in the next patch/add-on if enough positive feedback is gathered.

Main modifications and fixes

Damage model

1. Ships have improved damage model for small unprotected gun mounts. Now when they receive enough damage they can be €œshot off€. NOTE: this will not affect the ships that were built for the original IL-2 which are still available in the merged install. Only the later ships (cruisers and battleships) that shipped with FB, AEP and of course all PF ships will be affected.
2. B-17E and B-17F damage textures are fine-tuned.
3. The left wing damage model are corrected on the P-63C.
4. Visuals for wing and engine damage model are corrected on the A-20G.
5. Additional thorough testing was performed on damage model physics for most planes. In some cases additional changes were made to the damage modeling.

3D models

1. All currently reported inaccuracies in cockpit gauges are corrected (however several cockpit changes with some levers will be available only in the next add-on due to big size).
2. Pressure gauges are added to the F6F.
3. Graphical inaccuracies in arrestor hooks are corrected on some planes.
4. Additional aesthetical changes which don€t affect gameplay are made to some cockpits.

FM and aircraft performance

1. Additional individual tuning of flight models and aircraft performance were made for the F4F, F4U, F6F, Ki-43, Ki-61, A6M, Spitfire, Seafire, SBD and other planes.
Note: Spitfire and Seafire engine overheat model was finetuned as much as possible within the constraints of the current global engine model.

2. Engine cylinder compression and prop pitch modeling was extensively redone, which now results in the planes losing airspeed faster as engine RPM decreases.

AI

1. Many users requested additional control over the ship flak guns. We€ve added a new ROF(rate of fire) function to the FMB. This function controls the time it takes the ship to reload the weapons. Acceptable values range between 0.5 and 100, where
0.5 - half the historical time (i.e. ships fire twice as fast)
1 €" historical reload time
5 €" recommended value for lower-end machines.
100 €" the absolute slowest reload value possible. You will see virtually no flak with this setting.
Note: this function is a compromise between historical accuracy and the requests of many users who have lower end machines but want to participate in large-scale battles with many well armed ships. Increasing the pauses between salvos will lower the ship flak€s calculations during the game and thus introduce increased frame rates.
2. Japanese planes now use also the V formation
3. When the AI plane€s aircraft carrier is sunk, it will look for a nearby friendly carrier. In case none are found, the aircraft will attempt to locate a nearby friendly airfield; barring that they will ditch in the water or a nearby island.

Other improvements:

1. Improved water explosion effects.
2. B-25J bomb sight units are changed from metric to imperial.
3. Added fire extinguishers to A-20G and B-25J.
4. Fixed co-op track playback bug.
5. Fixed 3D A6M2 folding wing bug.
6. Fixed rare cases of aircraft raising gear while parked on carriers.
7. Added several stationary planes.
8. Several void.bmps added to several planes.
9. Corrected names and ammo loads for Ki-61s.
10. Removed fire extinguishers from P-38.
11. Corrected take-offs from damaged aircraft carriers.
12. Extensively reworked sinking behavior of ditched planes.
13. Added the ability to use time-delayed bombs against ships.
14. Corrected service dates and designations for some planes
15. Corrected the bug that occasionally appeared in co-op games when using
the No User Loadout option of FMB.
16. Added new skins for B-24, B5N, F4F-4, FM2 and J2M (Thanks Dani Santos)

Dynamic Campaign fixes and improvements

1. Wrong objects in final missions in case of autonomous install
2. Wrong airfield in New Guinea
3. Crashes in mountains in New Guinea.
4. Crash in second Midway mission when using Hard campaign difficulty
5. Collisions of Rufe at Iwo when using High Air Intensity
6. Wrong objects on some maps.
7. Guadalcanal NGen campaign did not work when selecting Hellcats as bombers.
8. Occasional start on water when moving to Iwo map
9. Text corrections
10. All ships now fire in DGen and NGen, but their rate of fire is lower. By default in these campaigns it is 5 times lower, but it can be modified.

To change ship rate of fire in DGen campaigns, add a line to conf.ini

SlowFire=n.n, where n.n = 0.5 to 100.0

To change ship rate of fire in NGen campaigns, add a line to corresponding camapign file, look as an example at /NGen/CampaignCoralSea.dat

It starts with lines:

[$select]
SlowFire:5.1

All ships in this online campaign will have their fire rate 5.1 times slower than original.

10. Iwo, Chichi, Okinawa, Wake operations added to USMC career
11. New Guinea aded to USAAF career.
12. Midway removed as USAAF operation.
13. Some plane choices are changed.
14. P-38 can be used in Japan 1945 operation
15. Marianas operation added to USN and IJN
16. CampaignLength parameter does not affect Pacific maps anymore (otherwise it could lead to very short campaigns)
17. British markings on B-29 in USAAF Japan campaign - fixed.
18. Kates dropping torpedoes to ground in Pearl Harbor - fixed
19. In order to allow planes with arrestor hook to fly from ground bases, it is possible now to use classes file associated with your career. For instance, this is a file from IJN fighter career classesIN1.dat

A6M5A Palau BASE
A6M5B Palau BASE
A6M5C Palau BASE
A6M5A Iwo BASE
A6M5B Iwo BASE
A6M5C Iwo BASE
A6M5A Okinawa BASE
A6M5B Okinawa BASE
A6M5C Okinawa BASE

Syntax:

Plane_code Operation_code BASE (or CARRIER)
This file allows A6M5A and A6M5B which are carrier based planes by default to fly from airfields at Palau, Iwo and Okinawa.

Graphic engine changes

1. Improved icon visibility for ground objects and planes.
2. Improved water effects such as explosions and wakes.
3. Improved water rendering:
a. Decreased tiling with Water = 0
b. Removed noise dots and squares in sun glint for all modes
c. Improved waves and whitecaps with Water=3.
4. Improved multiple visual effects.
5. Removed black dots that sometimes appeared around clouds
6. Improved caching for faster rendering in the Perfect mode

Recommended drivers
As of this moment, the latest recommended WHQL drivers are
ATI cards:
Catalyst 4.11 http://www.ati.com/home/online/CatalystCCCdriver.html
NVidia cards:

Additional Notes

1. Missions, tracks and other file names do not allow period, commas and special symbols such as umlauts.
2. When creating squad files for network play, please use these standard country codes to assign your squad to a specific army:

de - Germany
fi - Finland
fr - France
gb - RAF
hu - Hungary
it - Italy
ja - IJA
in - IJN
nn - None
pl - Poland
ro - Romania
sk - Slovakia
ru - USSR
us - USAAF
un - USN
um - USMC
ra - RAAF
rz - RNZAF
rn - RN
du - NL

Creating FMB missions with ships.

If you wish to create missions with ships performing evasive maneuvers simulated with waypoints, please use the following guidelines:

1. Do not make sharp turns in the waypoints, especially for the carriers with the
planes on the deck. This is especially important if these planes must land or take-off during these waypoints.
2. If you wish to make turning waypoints for other ships, then see the item above and please make as many waypoints as necessary to create smooth enough turns.
3. You can currently use this unsupported feature, which may be removed in the future.
- set the group of planes on the carrier by the rules described in readme v.3.0.
- set for this group of planes with only one (take off only!) waipoint, fuel=0, No weapon, Radio Silence.
This way you will have static aircraft permanently sitting on the aircraft deck.

Suggestions and Bug Repots

Please send all suggestions and bug reports regarding Pacific Fighters to PF@1c.ru

Please send all bug reports relating Dynamic campaign (DGen and NGen) separately to dgen@rogers.com

We can give oleg's team the hardest time we can but when you take a second to think about , the way they deal with us is the best by far to any game or sims compagny i've seen.

So give him some hard times http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but we all know that they listen, fix and do their best.

<<Patch for the merged install of PF+FB+AEP. UK/FR/DE languages
File1: PF_patch301m.exe is the actual patch file, PF+AEP Combo!
File2: PF_patch301m.exe the file for the test of the overall performance improvement>>

The two files downloaded are named PF_patch301m.exe and PF_patch301m_new.exe. I assume the File2 mentioned above is the file with "new" at the end.

Quoted instructions call for the exact same file name, but I think most have figured that one out.

****The issue mentioned in this posting has been corrected****

Hmmm, in that first posting you manage to confuse people, in the good old tradition of Il-2-patching:

"File1: PF_patch301m.exe is the actual patch file, PF+AEP Combo!
File2: PF_patch301m.exe the file for the test of the overall performance improvement, install it after you install the patch, meaning file1!"

Do file 1 and 2 have exatcly the same name?????

Same for the stand-alone announcement...

You forgot to add the "new"...

The_Great_Stonk
11-18-2004, 02:53 PM
install the patch, then install the _new file, this will add another .exe file with which to launch the game, the new one is supposed to increase performance aparently.

never before have I been so amazed and impressed by a game update. The new water effects are stunning, the programme runs a thousand times quicker, and the splashes are brilliant & fps friendly!!!!

thanks oleg and co. for making this already fantastic game a gigantic leap more brilliant. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

===============================================
question: when playing through hyperlobby is there a way to make HL run the IL2FB_new.exe on game start instead of the old executable?
============================================

We have been doing this with PF.exe to run it in HL Forgotten Battles. So like PF.exe,I am guessing you have to rename IL2FB_new.exe to IL2FB.exe.

Of course that means you must first rename IL2FB.exe to something like IL2FB_Hold.exe.

And that assumes that IL2FB_new.exe isn't intended to somehow launch IL2FB.exe as part of the start-up process, cos of course it won't find it once you've renamed it. In fact it would try to relaunch itself... hmmmmm what was the name of that bird that disappeared up its own........

I've just tried a quick mission with the 3.01 patch. No probs with the standard launcher, looks like there are quite a few improvements speedwise, but if I use the fb_new one all the texture of my seafire turn black and I got a grey box instead of the propeller (catalyst 4.12b here)

Hmm I find the new splash effect really well done and nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but I'm not sure I'm convinced by water highlight, it looks like contrast is way too high. (66.93, water 3 on 6800gt)

Not only does the game initially load a helluva lot faster, the missions/maps load faster and you get all around better frame rates with the Il2fb_new.exe!!! I got 3 FPS better on min., max. and average as recorded by Fraps using the Blackdeath.ntrk!!! This is really cool stuff so far. The only niggling/small thing I don't like so far is that planes in the distance have returned to fairly large black dots, like the original IL2 game. This may depend a lot on graphics cards/settings but that's what I get with my TI-4600 Ultra, with no other changes except the two patches having been installed. The absolute best thing is I have some water effects that allow me to see ripples on the water with medium graphics quality settings. Nice to actually be able to see the water so as not to crash into it now.

well i put an old video card and old monitor on this machine and Im able to get into the machine now. My monitor and ge4 4600 are fried and both do not work on my other system which i tried them on.

I highly doubt it was a coincidence that it happened as soon as i installed the patch and went into the game then it froze and the problem occured.

Im seriously thinking of contacting my lawyer, with 1.21 i had my $250 jbl speakers blow out from ship flak anomolie and a 150 sony headphones not even turned up halfway. I was able to return the headphones but not speakers. And that was definatly caused by this game. But this is serious money $600 viewsonic and ****ty ge4 4600.

sounds like a coincidence or more people would be having that problem...as you can see over the entire forums no one else has had this problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif . For that many things to go bad in one shot you would have to have a hefty power surge of some type on your system from something.

S! Leadspitter

My GeForce4 4600 fried and damaged my MoBo in Sept. I was playing FB+AEP at the time. I tried an old video card with no luck and I tried a new Radeon 9800 pro. The machine wouldn't boot with either replacement. Only the screwed up 4600. I don't think FB did it even though I'm sure the load it put on the card didn't help. I was haveing probs with surround sound too. I built a new rig, which I was planning on anyway, and still have the old surround sound system. No probs! I'm starting to think it was a power issue. My problems started after we had the remnants of one of those hurricannes that smashed Florida. Lots of power surges from the utilties. I know you are in the same county as me here in NJ, so I think you know that PSE&G doesn't handle the hurricanes well. But then again I'm no expert.

Im not saying its hunters fault hes the most helpful and knowledgable guy here, but it has to be something in the patch program.

what the hell would make my keyboard monitor and graphics card burn out completely but the rest of the pc seems fine with no data loss? We had no power loss or anything here.

It had to be something in the patch because i was playing the game fine for about 1 minutes then graphics went all disorted like some pychedilic thing with my plane still in the air and all mirrors of it moving like fractals.

Then i hard boot and nothing works monitor videocard and keyboard. They dont work any any of my other machines either now so are definatly fried.

Yea! More toys....

Install went fine, and ran fine, but using the 'NEW' bit for 3.01m didn't do anything - didn't launch... I wonder if IL2HK interfered?

Oh, I have the merged install, Radeon pro 9800 with the 4.11 cat drivers.

Graphics look fine, but the new minium plane dots look a little coarse (I suppose thats the trade off for better visibility) and the overall graphics seem coarser - maybe it reset my anti-ailas settings and stuff?

Hello,

I am new to Pacific Fighters. I just purchased and installed IL-2 FB + AEP + PF yesterday. I now downloaded the 3.01m patch from Flying Legends. Thanks for making it available on your site and at a good speed UK Jackal. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I do have a question. I notice there is a DGen Public Beta 3.11 available on Flying Legends. Does the new PF 3.01m patch now make the DGenBeta311 obsolete? From the Readme it sounds like the new PF 3.01m patch has newly updated DGen and NGen, but I just wanted to make sure that there is now no use in downloading and installing the DGenBeta311.zip file.

Thanks,

One Tin Soldier

Lol Aeronautico. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Well, I probably will feel a bit dizzy when I get into the game and try to learn my way around. I really look forward to some online dogfighting. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for answering my question, and it's about what I figured from the Readme. And then especially when I installed the patch and saw all the files being updated in the 'DGen' and 'NGen' folders while it unpacked.

Cheers,

Graphics smoother and some nice new effects to look at, Ki61 fixed to be more like it was etc. But anyone who wants a track of a F4F doing infinite loops with 100% stick deflection and FULL nose up trim please let me know. Couldn't get that bugger to stall even tried to FORCE it into a spin http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Funny to see that the plane can be kept in full "pull" at 160km/h without ANY tendency to even try stalling or dropping wing. No flaps used. Same applies with F4U..U rather blackout but do not stall it. And to prevent armada of fanbois attacking the no-stall applies to many other planes too, not only US gear. Anyways quite a good patch anyway. HAve a nice weekend.

My PSU died on me a week ago. I ran it on max for 6 months with sleep mode instead of turning it completely off.
The poor fella finally gave in.

I had a dream that my Chieftec 360W PSU would manage to play PF while running 2 HDD, 1 DVD-RW, 1 CD-ROM, 1024MB RAM, AMD XP2200+, 4 fans, 1 Floppy, 1 GF Ti4200 128MB, NIC and various USB devices.

If I had only ran Notepad then maybe I'd have been on the safe side.
PF and the IL-2 series are heavy load games that requires alot from your system
I'm pretty sure PF added to the balance on Lead's system and made it tip over but that would have happened with any heavy proggie...or even with Notepad on a hot day. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've learnt that a bad PSU can be the reason for many comp-problems.

sapre; I'm sure of it, but that is not the point.

my point is this:

because it takes so long (more than 1 week) to put the data, which was 'too much' for 2 cd's, available for public, it *CLEARLY* shows that the paragraph in ReadmePF.RTF was and *IS* a deliberate lie. A lie imposed by UBI or concocted by 1C, I don't know. But fact is, that it *IS* a lie and this lie was produced by eiterh UBI or 1C. period.

PF being the ultimate flightsim ever (which it is) is also besides the point. The point is principle. PF was sold heavily unfinished and official promises were made. To me that's just grossly misleading your customers, which is shameful and undefendable.

Hunter82: okay, dumping UBI is probably not advisable as it indeed will breach several contracts; however, I'm just saying 1C should stand up and don't take the sheisse coming from UBI. that's all. 1C can't just say; "It's UBI's fault" and expect never to be held accountable for this abomination.

Ok, I've been a software developer, and many of you have unrealistic expectations.

Nobody said this game was going to be YOUR dream come true.

In Oleg's shoes, here's what I would do:

Here's the game, like it or lump it.
You can report whatever 'bugs' you want. As long as the product installs, runs and basically works as advertised (i.e. you can take off, land, shoot stuff and drop bombs) thats all that is promised...

THEN, without prior notice, I would occasionally release updates with various fixes and adjustments, even though the whining users complain despite the free handout. If it got too bad, I would charge for the releases as updates by adding some new planes and missions.

Get real people! If your work/school/life whatever was held to this same scrutiny, you would FAIL!

Reporting inaccurcies or minor bugs is fine and contributes to the overall quality of the product, but they don't owe us ANYTHING.

I paid my money, and was happy with what I got. I am even happier as they add more stuff and tweek things for free instead of just dumping it out there with never an update - thats what happens with most games..

Also taking into consideration that many customers reported a few minor bugs and also what they would like to be included as an extra.

By this 1CMaddox had taken the opportunity to also include these in to the patch, so your not only getting extra featueres and tweeks but also the new aircraft.

So in you opinion you would be very happy to have all the fighters and bombers as advertised and delay the fixes and more additions to a more convinient time, say 4/5 months time ?

Then no doubt those waiting so long will start to whine more ?

Have grabbed all for V3.01 and "_new.exe", including ATI drivers, and run various tests.

Mostly ok and summarised here including setup:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/klem/Vac/Information/IL2FB_3.01_tests.xls

these are only really fps tests with TheDeathTrack.trk (one step at a time).

The only big question is that the orange explosion on the FW190 right near the end of the track does not show with "_new" .exe.

for me it comes down to:
V3.01 runs faster than V3.

IL2FB_new.exe is even faster, including loading, but with that loss of explosion flame on the FW.

For ATI cards: 4.11 ATI drivers + 4.12 atioglxx.dll in FB directory.

How do I get Oleg to look at that explosion problem?

No DS.....will be released with full add on (new AC). Somewhere in the size of 300-500 mb <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Please tell me that you mean the Dedicated Server and the add on will be released at the same time, but as seperate downloads.

I mean, would you like TO D/L 500MB, on a 56k modem. when all you want is the add on and have no interest in the DS????

You can report whatever 'bugs' you want. As long as the product installs, runs and basically works as advertised (i.e. you can take off, land, shoot stuff and drop bombs) thats all that is promised...

Hi all;
Well after reading these posts it seems Spinnetti has hit the nail on the head, congrats.

The people who post here and do nothing but whine and gripe make me PUKE!!!
Seems you people don't remember the support you got from M$ or a hundred other companies who produce flight sims or first person shooters.

Ever seen a patch for COD with all it's bugs??

Bottom line is girls(thats for the whiners and gripers.) Software be it sims or fps whatever, they are made by people. People are not perfect and nothing made by them ever will be. People make mistakes, follow budget constraints, get ill, and a thousand other reasons. So if "Your" flight sim or FPS isn't what you want, go elsewhere and see the support you recieve.

GROW UP and GROW A PAIR!!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe you read some of the posts above and grow up yourself, maybe start by learning to read. The support we get was not asked in any post on this side, it is, as allways good.

BUT by complaining about a not finished product they are right. On my package i read about a flyable Betty, i read about more then 40 flyable planes and they are not there! Neither is the promised patch there to replace the missing 3.cd (which is ridiculous btw, who pays the customer the onlinetime for the dl??? Most people are not on flatrate and not on cable/dsl-lucky me i am).

If i spend my money on a product i want it now, not in 4-5 weeks at an additional cost and i just do not mind if somebody is in holiday/ill/round the corner.

oh please.. why dont all of you unsatisfied people just shut the f##k up and relax. did i miss where it said whiners forum? if so please direct me to the proper place. if your so unsatisfied with the finished product, sell your cd to someone who will use it for the game, not for the links to the forums where you can shed some tear over simple and stupid reasons.. and as for people bagging on one company of the other, here is my 2 cents on the subject. if it wasnt for IC , we wouldnt be playing this game. and if it wasnt for UBI we wouldnt even know this game existed.

if your still so mad about misinformation on your game. goto school, learn how to program, fix it yourself, then let us all have your finished product for free. then to top it off. let us b*tch at you nonstop. ok?

these guys work there marbles off so they can finish a product in time to get paid. plain and simple. here is some misinformation for you.. tell me where it says on the box that you will get free updates for anything on the game? tell me where it says you had to purchace it in the first place? and last but not least tell me where is says "all whiners are welcome to bag on us" ?

show alittle loyalty and maybe say thank you for not makeing us wait another year. maybe thank you for continuing a game we love so much.

Thats just childish nonsense...if you crash with your car because they did forget the brakes advertised on the car don´t complain, study, make a better car and crash your own?? BS.

Show a little brain.

tell me how crashing a car that didnt have breaks, has anything to do with buying a video game?

that is completely differant and you know it.. you seem to just want to fight about nonsence.

if i crashed a car that i bought from a car dealership, because it didnt have breaks.. i would sue the **** outa them and be rich. now i ask you again.. tell me how that has anything to do with a game you got in a store?

i think it is you who need to start useing your brain (if there be one in your head at all)

Nope, its not that different. You buy a product because of the features advertised..its just doesn´t mind what product..the example with the car is at the same stupidy level like your comment "go to school, make your own".
Advertised features are not in so it is ok for others to complain about. This has nothing to do with loyality/"will get it later" and so on.
With things like this you destroy a good name and loose future sim-lovers that will buy the next product and keep the market alive..

If i were new to this and had to dl several 100mb to get what i had allready payed for, this would be my first and last sim..

As i said before, i love the sim, i have flatrate/dsl so i do not mind, if i was on 56k and had to pay for every minute i sure would mind a lot

and don´t try and teach me about brains, i forgot more about it you´ll ever know in your life http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif

look.. im not gonna get into an argument with you about something that has nothing to do with the point of the matter. and i recomend that you polish up on your english skills before you go and try to start a fight with someone who speaks it well. you come off sounding like a ****** at best. try again to explain what you just said, because at this point, it doesnt really make much sence. i think its your bad english m8 :P
