Up to which point in the war was the Spitfire Mk1 used? The earliest we can get is the Mk5, however I'd love the use the 8 .303's. Would it be a reasonable/rational decision to have it in game? Even though it's not gonna be http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

initially , the Mk1 Spitfire had the same Hp as the Hurricane

1050 Hp

our Hurricanes are 100 Hp less , Russian versions

We would also need an earlier version 110 to keep it correct.

Yeah, for FB it is far more important aircraft than Mk.I Spit.
I would like to see *both* flyable, but most likely would never happen.

But for sure we can get sick of Mk.Is when BoB comes out.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The Mk1 would be a nice addition since we have the 109E and the early Hurricane but without a channel or England map and with so few other aircraft from the Battle of Britain flyable I don't think the scenarios would work out well. Plenty of time for the Mk1 in BOB, it would be kind of out of place in il2.

The last Sptfire MK I were delivered in September 1941.

Latest I've managed to find for the Spit I (at least for flyable in-game RAF Sqns) is 303 Sqn which flew them from Jan 41 to Mar 41, and Aug 41 to Oct41, though probably only on defensive duties in the north of the UK and the midlands. Got the info from the RAF History site, http://www.rafweb.org/Menu.htm.

Spitfire Mark I and the essentially identical Mark II (from Castle Bromwich I believe) were used frontline until mid-1941 when the Mark V came on strength.

There were some Mark Va's with 8 .303 armaments before they were supplanted by the Vb. I think Douglas Bader was one of the few to get the Va as he prefered and specifically requested the 8 .303 armament.

The Mk. I was used less than the Mk. II in BOB. The Mk I had a fixed pitch 2 blade wooden prop, the Mk. II had an all metal 3 blade variable pitch prop and was much more versatile. Otherwise the two marks were the same.
