Just came from fresh resupply from Spain. Took some hull damage and unsure if that repairs or it just gives you new torps and fuel. Intercepted Large convoy doing 8 knots heading SW near BF 13. Fired 4 torps at 18:30 hrs all 4 hit. 2 ships sink, one 13k whaler and one 8k modern medium tanker. Intimidate action was to crash dived to 160M run silent and creep along SW-S at 2knots. Got hammered by three escorts for 2 hours. 2 leave and one hangs back acting erratically. Decide to go to periscope and secure from silent running and reload tubes 1-4. Escort rams me at periscope depth! Don't think I was spotted just an accidental collision. I take some hull damage but he explodes and sinks from our surprise encounter. I don't get a kill for that but one less to worry about. Surface. My crew spots a 2nd immobilized 8k modern medium tanker at the original attack site. Also, spots a destroyer to the SW heading in my general direction. Probably trying to find out what happened to his bud. My 4th target was unobserved or at least didn't slow so he's still with convoy I assume. Make my course to the lame duck tanker but the escort has my sent, dive to 50M. I go right beside the tanker and go to periscope depth again. The escort is doing circles so I decide to launch a torp... miss. Try again, money shot! Surface. Use deck gun to finish tanker then head SW at flank to find the convoy. Spot 3rd escort and see he's doing lazy circles. Get within 4k and wait till his back is turned. Blow ballast and man deck gun. Land a few round but he comes about too fast and lands a lucky shot. Deck crew KIA! Manage to replace them and sink the SOB. At this point sub is repaired but have no idea how bad the hull is. Don't want to risk another surface gun battle or a long depth charge exchange. Proceed at flank to find the rest of convoy. Found! ID one large merchant (8k) 2 medium merchants (6k) and 15 smaller vessels and ONE LAST DESTROYER. ARRGH!

Now what? It's 22:00 starry night, no moon. I don't want to risk mag shots because they almost never work at this point in the war and I am in no position for an impact torp run as I am 6K behind them and they are at 8 knots and that my top speed submerged. Don't want to risk another gun run but since there are so many ships I could run among them to throw off his aim. I could break off and try to reacquire with another torp run but I risk losing them in the night. Sent contact report to BDU but have no expectation of support. Not thrilled at all the small fry, looks like I bagged the big fish already but my new deck crew want blood.

April 1940 is too early to count on Luftwaffe support to BF13.
A type 34 destroyer is an outside possibility ... they do patrol in the Bay of Biscay occasionally, but I think not until July or August 1940.
So unless GWX 1.03 has another u-boat in the vicinity (possible, but unlikely .... they're all up around Norway at this time, for the invasion) you're likely on your own.
I'm not sure about repairs, having never refueled in Spain. Check your hull integrity if you have this feature turned on .... over 80%, give it a go ... anything less than 80%, don't risk it. Let them go and live to fight another day.

It's a V&W, if it was a 34 I would have never surfaced for a gun battle. I can't see the hull integrity, it's turned off at this level. I had flooding in three compartments and two may have gone orange for a spell. If I was to guess I would say 65%-75% but may be lower if Spain didn't repair my last patrol. If so then I would say 45%-55%.

Yes, Norway has most but not all U-Boats on task already and as France is still to be taken I did not expect air support since it's at night anyway. Probably just helped the enemy more than anything.

Don't worry, resupply will rearm and refuel the boat, AND fix any damage, as well as destroyed systems. So you will live to hunt another day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well it was a good thing they did! I decided to do an end round. At 4 am I was in position for another stern shot and let 4 fire, scored with 3. Turned south and looked back fired another and got a parting shot on a tramp steamer. Headed at periscope depth at 5 knots but let my stern torp reload. The last destroyer gave chase. As soon as he stopped pinging I went all flank and hard to port with the intent of going 160M but at 110M I started taking damage. With no choice I decided after the charges stopped I gave the order to come up and hope for a shot. The flank speed gave me enough momentum to come up fast while I cut the engines to 2 knots. He stopped to hear me so when I took a look he was dead still at 750m and broadside to my stern tube. A perfect shot I could not pass up. 1 shot, 1 kill! Headed NW at flank on the surface and had my crews load the last two external torps. With only 118 shells left I managed to head home with 77K in tonnage and left the convoy with only 4 small freighters. Not a bad haul and the closest I've had to date to the 100K club. One thing I could not understand is why they didn't scatter once the last escort went down and why a Halifax bound convoy had tanks.
