View Full Version : Gutted. Read that the P-47N had been modelled for IL2, but never released :(

Probably old news, but one of the guys on SIMHQ had skinned the model for release...but obviously there was 'THE' issue, which meant the P-47N was never released.

Gutted.

Ah well, maybe 2-3 years time in BoB....maybe.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Takes 6 months to implement a new flyable into BoB. You have a long wait before you that`s for sure.

Do I need a tin foil hat to understand what "THE" Issue is? Or just to keep it secret?

THE lawsuit issue to put it short.

Are those spare tanks on the wing pylons? They look horrible! Tell me those aren't IL2. (I've never flown the P47 with tanks on so I've never noticed.... but those are really bad looking.

The 'N' woulda been nice.

Care to elaborate? Is this the same thing that prevented having the Avenger as a flyable?

Work In Progress shots. Take it with a grain of salt. Notice only one wing is the 'N'.

Nope...I was in on this project a little bit. It was nowhere near even being partly finished.

IL-2 was an appetizer. Now for the entree.

That thing would do about 470mph in real life, right?

Maybe part of the reason it's not there is because they felt it might 'imbalance' the planeset too much against Blue.

467mph with full ammo and internal fuel, just 3 mph slower than the P-47M. Burn off a several hundred pounds of fuel and I bet it'd be as bit faster. There's also the better rollrate and general handling with the longer wing.

With max internal fuel and 300gal droptanks, the fuel weight alone weighs 400lbs shy of a fully loaded Bf-109K! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I guess this story is one reason why Oleg wants to make it easier to model planes for BoB. If what he plans works out, 3rd party planes can be added and then approved for the protected online-servers.

That way, nobody makes profit of the airplanes, no selling copyrighted planes. A good workaround for those US lawyers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

And if you don't associate the plane's original manufacturer's name with the model. Don't call it the Xxxxxxx F6F Hellcat, just call it the F6F Hellcat.

I discovered that the Silent Hunter 4 team had very similar issues with their sim. Even uniform, medals and rank insignia they had to mess around with due to possible lawsuits. One of the devs actually posted up to complain about it and his frustration was quite real.

I dunno what`s going on lately, but some companies who still own rights to 60 year old WWII equipment are becoming so greedy to the point of cutting off their own nose to spite someone else`s face.

I mean, why prevent the historical remake of the classic WWII stuff? It teaches our kids and men about the war through simming - people learn better if they can `live` a little of the history, but charging for the previliege that few dev companies can meet just don`t make sense.

Oh well. Though I think it's too bad, I'm still glad we got the P-47D "late" model that is completely competitive in this sim.

No harm, no foul.

As stated, the expansion possibilities in future sims are exciting. Nonetheless, I seriously doubt we'll EVER see a WWII flight-sim that retains the interest level and longevity this one has. Nor will we ever see another one with over 100 flyables in it.
