I am in the final stages of reworking airfields on an existing map and I thought of an
interesting feature that I would like to incorporate. I have little to no experience in online
play so I seek help from those more experienced than I.

When actual aircraft leave the taxiway they generally do not turn, go a ways, and then stop.
Don't they usually make a tight 180 degree turn before shutting down the engine?
Where appropriate, I would like to add this ability to the airfields as I feel this small feature
adds a great deal of realism. Check these screenshots.

My question though is this...

Will this cause problems for people in dogfight servers that use the “parking spots” as
spawn points? If I program in a 180 degree turn will IL-2 automatically execute another
180 degree turn leaving the aircraft pointing in the wrong direction? Are there any other
issues regarding this feature that I have not anticipated?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm assuming you're talking about a AI reacting to the waypoints on the ground. I imagine the AI will do whatever you tell them to. If it's a dogfight server then you should be careful where the AI is traveling versus spawn locations for players. Don't want the two to mix.

Personal pet peave comment: I build online scenarios for UK-Dedicated servers and I've had nothing but hassles both playing and building for MOD and non-MOD versions of maps. Okinawa and Ardennes being the worst. Given that you're making what appears to be substantial changes... if online compatibility figures in at all. Make this a new map entry rather then overwriting the default. It's a nightmare sometimes.

I hope that sort of answers your question in any case http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This will be a new map entry for the reasons you have stated.

Perhaps I could clarify my question.

I am having to choose to have the planes face away from the runway/taxiway or to perform a quick J shaped turn and shut down facing the runway.

I am setting all taxi and stay points and have tested to assure that no collisions occur or planes won't spawn in buildings, trees etc.

It's just a cool little feature to have the planes do a quick 180 degree turn at the end of their taxi run before they shut down.

My concern is this. Although it may look good in a single player mission I am afraid it will cause the planes to spawn facing in the wrong direction in a dogfight mission online.

I hopes this helps to clarify my dilema.

Planes spawn all over the place with any facing already, so I don't think you have to bother.

Thanks everyone!

All of the airfields have several different parking arrangements already so this should add a little more to the immersion factor at least.
