Frankly, I don't think we can expect any significant upgrades in AEP/fFB since PF is going to take all of the effort. Forget a Sit XIV, Tempest, Tornado, Mosquito. But Maps are, perhaps, another matter. If smart folks can make a very good Malta map, and a fair but very limited desert map, why can't some enterprising genius make a map of Southern England, the Channel and the adjacent Low Countries, including northern France? Then we could have realistic range issues, more complex strategies etc. Any takers?

There WILL be another patch released in the near future, and there are several planes which have been completed, so I do not see why there won't be any planes added on to FB. Coupled with the fact that if you currently own FB, then PF will be an add on much like AEP was, instead of it being a stand alone.

Back to the subject, I would also love to see some Southern England/Northern France or some Mediterranean (Malta) maps or whatnot...

I doubt there will be any FB(AEP)-only patch any more. Most likely, there will be PF-only patches, and FB(AEP)/PF patches: "European" content will be added only to FB(AEP)/PF, while "Pacific" content will be released for both. FB stops here.

This is mainly due to technical reasons - two different (FB and FB/PF) versions would be too complex to patch in the future for Oleg's team (it's hard enough tracking changes now).

Apparently there is another map in the works...with the hint that "the French will be very happy". Not sure what this means but I can't wait http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A note to the thread starter:
You should be aware that map making is much more involved than making aircraft models. There was an interview with Luthier done back when Battle Over Europe was first released (read: pre-PF announcement) in which he commented on the difficulty of map making (Perhaps someone can find a link). The gist of his comments seemed to me that the map making tools were complex enough, then came the tediousness of making the map itself.

well,....
Numero uno: only Oleg &co can make maps, since they won't give the "map tool" to anyone.
Numero due: Atm we lack half of Russia and the entire central-eastern Europe, where the European part of the war saw the most activity... Not France.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Luthier posted at FP forum that placing the Building Objects were the hardest part of map making and the Building Objects are what causes slow map performance.

With no building objects, they could easily make a map all Europe and it would load fast like tiny dogfight map. Then we would need droptanks for P~51.

Mission creators can place a few buildings on the All Europe map where they need in their missions.

Also, there are no use for roads on the FB maps. Ground vehicles travel the same on road or off road. Player aircraft can take off smooth on roads but AI doesn't care. Worse, the few aircraft that need external starters at official FB international airports (they are that large yes) still cannot start engines on roads. So, map makers don't need to make roads, and this would save having to program the routes for AI ground vehicles to follow. So the map makers don't need to make roads--such are the possibilities for Oleg to create monster fast performing All Europe and All Pacific maps thousands of kilometers wide.

thats what i think we need most, more and bigger maps. italian french polish czech britian better north african maps. While im looking forward to BOB im sure many will still enjoy fb/aep pf because of the ammount of aircraft and ammount of possibilities for the engine. BOB is not going to have alot of aircraft even tho it will look better graphically and probally never will have that many due to the more complex modeling and cockpits.

We all have flown every small square map in fb 100,000 times plus and no new terrain = game gets boring fast for most people.

But we still continue to fly but as you see on HL the last few months the ammount of players have severely died out.

Those home-made towns have a serious fault: They're invisble from the distance as the buildings will only pop up when you get very close. Regular towns are built on dark textures that remain visible even from far away when the objects haven't been drawn yet.

Roads are needed to navigate and find the enemy under full real conditions. Please don't leave them out. Also it looks stupid to see cars drive across meadows.

What about a huge map with town textures and roads, but with only a few buildings then?

I'm a Chevy man myself...but, yes, if the opportunity (even in the form of a paid expansion) presented itself, I would loooovvve to get a set of maps covering the Channel and Northern France, at least.

However, I think the size restrictions of the maps make long-range escort missions unlikely, unless there's a means of 'stitching' missions/maps together.

cheers
