Can anyone tell me what the terms in the Japanese unit/ formation chart mean? As follows:

Sentai -
Hikotai -
Kokutai -
Hiko -
Lensei -
Daitai -
Dokoritsu -
Chutai - (I think this means "flight", no?)

Are there easy translations like "squadron" or "fighter"?

There is a difference between some ot the terms between the Japanese Army and Navy.

Here are some air organization charts. I hope they help.

AFAIK, there was a change in organization 1943, as far as actual numbers that constituted the setais etc went

later there were further reorganizations, dependant upon the level of unit

the IJA/IJN organization was not a constant, during the war

Also as a tip use Kou instead of ko...for say like Hikoudan and others....Ko is incorrect when you match up the kanji.......

it's also really when speaking of "planes"...Hikousentai as an example...."Flying Regiment"
