Anything for a PC will work out so long it's not. . .

A: A flightsim

B: A subsim

Whaddya suggest? I've got a PC with 200GB of HD, 1024mb of RAM and an ATI X700SE 256mb graphics card. Really, tanksims, racing, "shootsims", whatever! But please keep yourself on the serious side, no suggestions for games released in 1985! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hidden and Dangerous 2: Courage Under Fire (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009J1J0W/qid=1145473051/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl/203-7634760-3671953)

Top notch tactical squad based shooter, controlling a 4-man SAS team across every classic WWII environment (North Africa, Burma, Europe, mini-submarines, ice-floes, etc.) and against every major axis power. First or third person direct player control as well as tactical map and squad commands.

DON'T buy if you're just expecting another Call of Duty, DO buy if you want something a little more complex and challenging.

It's been around for a while, Courage Under Fire is the combined pack including Hidden and Dangerous 2 and the Sabre Squadron expansion.

If you fancy a couple of car racing sims i could reccomend 'GTR'(fia sportscar sim) and 'GT Legends (fia historic touring car sim) both by a company called 'Simbin' and marketed by 'Atari'here in the UK, actually saw them together in a pack in p.c world so thats a cheaper way of getting them (about 30 i think) but i spect u can pick these up cheaper now as GTR is about a year old. Also Simbin have just got a licence to do a world touring car sim, so they obviously know what they are doing, also GTR 2 is coming out in june and looks good, only downside for some is they use 'Starforce' copy protection although i've experienced no probs with it, cheers.

my fave site is http://www.gamespot.com

not only does it have a review of every game, you can browse according to style/ category

and the good thing is theyre really hard on the reviews, so games above 8 (out of a possible 10) are all great games!

Read my game reviews at:
http://phaitplays.blogspot.com

Hitman series, Indigo Prophecy, IGI 2, Max Payne 2, Mafia, Thief: Deadly Shadows..

Also if you like realistic racing, look into "GTR" or it maybe titled "GTR FIA Racing"...

http://www.3dgamers.com/screenshots/games/gtr/ a demo there too

Oooo Thief series!!
Great FPS games for those who hate FPS.
instead of killing everything you see, you try and avoid detection and complete objectives without killing anything.
Its a "put on the headphones and dim the lights" game.

Hey car racing fans, check this free demo out.

Live For Speed (http://www.liveforspeed.net)

It's still very much in development but the physics are top notch. Pressing F9 whilst racing even gives you a continual display of your tire pressures and temps!

CoD. Think you'll like it. There are demos for d/l at 3D Gamers. The files are huge, but worth the wait. If on dial up, forget it.

Call Of Duty is a graphics intense exravaganza - great fun, and does convey something of being caught up in events - but it's 'on rails'. There are many more ways than one to skin a cat with H & D 2. Much more brainpower required.

Rome: Total War has some great mods available - taking up a lot of my non-airborne time lately.

This is what it looks like straight out of the box -

This is what you can end up with if you visit the Rome Total Realism forums and check out their list of completed mods.

Look out for the Rome: Total War 'Gold' DVD with the Barbarian Invasion expansion.

Hidden and Dangerous 2 is still my all time favorite shooter. Well worth it.

SH3 and IL2+AEP+PF eh?

then you're a hardcore simmer

you JUST need these:

Rome: Total War
Operation FlashPoint: Cold War Crisis + Resistance

And just for fun:

Call of Duty 2
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
Tomb Raider: Legend

BUT if you like eye candy, no realism, total mayhem and playing with teenagers, follow the crowd and get

BF2

A vote for Half Life 2 here... it's been out a while, but it was probably the most entertaining game I played in a loooong time.

I had no idea Hidden and Dangerous 2 could be played in 3rd person. I love those type of games but hate the way most of them force you to use 1st person. I'll have to give it a try, thanks for the heads up.

Well, Operation Flashpoint GOTY is the best choise. And plus the most greater mod FFUR series:

1. FFUR 2006 mod. http://ffur.net/ofp/ffur-2005/
The mod team change the default campaign (1985 cold war crissis, Red hammer and Resistance) to modern equipment, more smarter AI and harder setting.

more screenshot @ http://images.reven.co.uk/FFUR/2005/

2. FFUR Euro pack
The mod team change default campaign to euro and russia moderm equipment.

http://images.reven.co.uk/FFUR/European%20Crisis/11.jpg

http://images.reven.co.uk/FFUR/European%20Crisis/9.jpg

http://images.reven.co.uk/FFUR/European%20Crisis/18.jpg

http://images.reven.co.uk/FFUR/European%20Crisis/19.jpg

Can't imagine this is 6 years old game and it's engine can handle so good graphic.

There is more mods from FFUR such as, desert pack, winter pack, asia pack etc.

Another good mod is FDF mod. And there is lots of good mod for this game.

Heres one for H&D2. Before Il2, I played that game like it was goin outta fashion (which it isn't hopefully http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) Well the demo at least. CoD2 is alright, but the single player campaigns are short and I could never get online working, but I'd imagine it'd kick arse.
Here's another for OfP! Unfortunately, mine seems to me corrupt when I tried to get it running a coupla days ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif But there are some awesome mods, like FFUR, and FDF, the first and (IMO) most successful full conversion mod. Plus it has a sidedish, FDF WW2 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

And yes, Rome is an awesome game. The most memorable moment for me was when I entered a battle surrounded on 2 sides, with a much meagre force of archers, and ended up winning the fight http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Good games in my stock:

1 Mafia-Very good and nice atmosphere.

2 Hidden and dangerous 2-I think it´s the best WW2 FPS,sneaking, action, whatever style you want.

3 COD 2-Action,action and action,and lots of fun,linear??pff who cares. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

4 Brothers in arms-Not very thrilled about it at first but now I love it,even bough the sequel.WW2 FSP of spectrum warriors.

5 FEAR-First time playing it gives you the chill...very nice game.

6 Star wars:Knights of the old republic 1&2-Bought it along with Jedi knight cause I though it would be something similar and when I saw it have a kind of RPG stuff implanted I got a bit suspicious but I where totaly wrong.I liked it a lot.

GTR and GT legend-Top notch car sims,no doubt about it.

Toca race driver 3-My recently bought and I like it a lot-Want to drive trucks?yes it´s there.Want to drive Monster trucks?There too.Formel 1000/ford,Brittish GP...you name it and it´s there...almost http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

A few shiny gems that no one should be without...oh...Outcast...heck of a game, wonder if it would play on XP?Gotta check.

Falcon 4 Allied Force - Some of the graphics are dated but the learning curve and campaign will keep you busy for a good while.

MS Flight Simulator 2004. Some of the payware stuff available now creates a pretty good world to fly around in.

Half-Life 2, still the most enjoyable FPS I've played.

Anywhere I can pay to download Operation Flashpoint GOTY Edition? I love cold war stuff. I always thought LOMAC would have been more interesting if they did a cold war NATO vs Warsaw pact kind of thing.

Thanks

Grand Prix Legends. Google it. It's got a big learning curve. You thought it was hard to fly a plane in this sim properly??? Wait until you drive a '67 GP racer with no aero, 400 hp, rock hard tires, and no seatbelt that weight 1200 pounds. Released in '98 and still going strong- tons of mods for cars and tracks make this sim look brand new

Operation Flashpoint. "Oldy" and a goody. It IS 1985 when you play this one. Lots and lots of mods. From 200?

Mafia. It's got great feel, even if they miss a few things. From 2003

Post Mortem. Almost unknown, it's a mystery game. Quirky but fun. 2002-ish I think

F.E.A.R- great great first person shooter, cool story, killer AI, fun time
