Anyone ever seen this or is there something borked with my copy of Il-2? Flying a P-40 over the Med shooting at Ju-52s. Do a close pass on one, the wing comes off the Ju-52 spins threw the air, hits my plane, tears the wing off and down I go. The P-40 goes nose first at 150 mph into the water, bounces up 50ft into air and falls back down on its nose into the water like a giant pogo stick. Does this all in one piece (minus the wing). The engine is still running. My pilot still alive, still conscious is able to escape the wreck and ends up on his little lift raft.

So what happened? Logically the P-40 should have become a instant crumpled up wreck on the bottom of the ocean at that speed. Is this some oddity of the game or bug with my copy? I am positive that vulnerability is turned on since the plane had taken damage from bullet hits previous to the collision with the wing.

You mentioned "Over the Med". Are you using Mods? Perhaps that has something to do with it?

I've never seen anything like that, but I did have a ntrk, I think I backed it up, which showed a Fw-190 on the ground spinning on it's spinner after it crashed. It continued to do this until the wreckage dissapeared.

Could just be a glitch. I've once whilst flying the tiffie I went a little too low and clipped my propeller on the ground. Despite it being bent backwards (like when you crash-land) it flew at normal speeds and i was able to turn it on and off with no problems. Just one of those things.

Check the difficulty settings for your game. Most likely "Realistic Landings" is not on (lit). This setting is different from "Vulnerability".

FYI, here is a link to an explanation of each of the Difficulty settings:

Hmm, come to think of it I had never bothered to turn realistic landings back on from when I was learning. So that is what that does. Thanks for the link

As for the Ju-88 video I once saw and AI flown Ki-27 crash into a mountain top, roll down the other side ripping off its wings, tail and engine off until there was only the cockpit. The cockpit rolls down the whole 2,000ft mountain and comes to a stop at the bottom of it looking quite intact with no fire or explosion.

That was most likely taken with Realistic Landings turned off as well. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have had a few unlikely bouncy landings with full real on (offline).
funnily enough its only twin engined German planes this happens with, maybe they were coated in a rubber solution http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
