All planes from SWOTL (including the add-ons) are in except for the Do-335 Pfeil... my favorite simulator (before the introduction of IL2) is counting its last days... or is it not?

Will we ever see the Do-335 in Sturmovik? That would be a hell of dog to fight in the air! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif
Anyone working on this model?

(I know it has been discussed in the past, consider it an alternative bump)

I've been hoping for the Pfeil for ages now. It was being worked on, then dropped, and apparently picked up by someone new, but I have no idea where it's at now. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

It would be so feckin cool to have that plane included, that it would be worth listening to all the belly-aching over the fact that it is actually able to get out of it's own way. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Well, a piston-engined aircraft with jet performance isn't for everyone. I guess if it ever comes the rooms in multiplayer games should read: "No jets and Do335" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The Pfeil is a killer plane.

Man even the strategic part of that game is unrepeatable. SWON sucked big time.

The campaign system in BOB & SWOTL was incredibly good as far as immersion factor goes - unfortunately, it was very easy to exploit. Attacking targets with B17's was pure suicide. You'd get much better results by taking a solo P47 and then unloading everything on a single target & finishing off with aiming your plane at a target & bailing out. You'd take a hit in pilot & plane availability, but all of your raids for the day would be successful. Same thing on BOB, except the key to success was either low level dive bombing with a He111 or fighter sweeps with a Bf110. Regardless, at the time we didn't have anything better and it was AWESOME!-D

Oh, SWOTL was a dream come true at the time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Anyone remember the first game in the series, "BattleHawks 1942" or something like that? It was the first lucasarts ww2 flight sim and the first ever to have "realistic" view around the pilot, not wonderwomanview. Used to fly with the mouse and there wasn't any campaign, total of 32 missions I believe and sprite-based graphics http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

What excellent divebombing and torpedo attack fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif BTW in BH1942 it did matter at what speed and altitude you dropped the torp.. in fb it doesn't http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif Not to worry though, FB is better in some other areas.

I don't know about the speed in IL2, but altitude plays a role.

Unless you mean in BH1942 was simulated to the detail of depth and distance that the torpedo effectively went.

Well I've seen torpedo tosses in il2 (even a movie in www.il2sturmovik.com (http://www.il2sturmovik.com) has a "torpedo run" that is pure hollywood.) and I guarantee you that it would NOT work IRL. The torp would dart into the bottom or explode on impact.

Actually we are missing the torpedo attack realism completely in this sim. Torps needed to be dropped from a really low alt and very low speed. ATM we can drop the load from 300km/h and 300m and the damn thing still works http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

It was way more realistic in bh1942.

It was fun to go really slow and low in the middle of terrible flak and zeros on the tail.. And then have to work your way out of there.

First let me say that Gibbages is (or was?) working on it but he apparently has lost interest in the project in favor of some PF projects.

I do wish he would let others have a shot at it if he has no intentions of finishing it.

FWIW, I try to stay away from the 3d modelers forums at netwings because the modelers egos tend to get the better of them over there. Sometimes they can be downright nasty.

Oh well, maybe CFS4 will churn up to be better than the current CFS POS, or maybe Gibbage will have a change of heart and some free time or give it to somebody who cares. I care but lack the skills, software and time. Hope somebody will step up to the plate.

Cross your fingers.

DuxCorvan

I think Gibbage has the Pfeil in dry dock. I don't know if he wants to go on with it someday.

It would be really wonderful -and interesting- to have this bird in game. Not strictly a 'what if' plane, since it saw some operational service and even engaged combat in a few occasions -SWOTL manual explained when- and there was some versions planned, including a bigger, more powerful version, Do 335B, and a two-seat night fighter.

It would be a pity not having this, I'd like to recreate SWOTL missions in a more up-to-date environment. It's a pity we don't have a Channel map also, you know, to have 8th AF bases there.

SWOTL was a wonderful game. You baptised your men and assigned them the planes. The better they did, the better their future performance. Hence, you really cared about them, and felt real relief when you read: 'xxxxx has bailed out to safety'.

BTW, the pilots who bailed out over enemy territory had a chance to escape. Has this been fixed in FB/AEP?

Alright you convinced me. Please bring it to Oleg's Ready Room with your details and experiences from BH1942. I'm sure Oleg and his team will appreciate your input and try to fix this.

As for the Do-335, whoever is friend with the dudes in Netwings, please convince them to reconsider about the Pfeil. It's a MUST aircraft.

thier finest hour, the prelude to swotl is where I earned my wings and had grade problems in college http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aces of the pacific had setup where you had to drop the torp correctly or it would not run. Unfortunately Oleg has stated that it would be too complex to add that into IL2.

Menacing design, blisteringly fast, armed to the teeth, what more could you want? I beleive it even carried a bombload of some kind but I can't remember since its been so long since I've played CFS3 (and for good reason).

I would prance about like a vamped little girl if both a Mossie and Pfeil were included in FB, but I respect Gib and Oleg's concentration of resources on other PF and BoB-related things. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

SWOTL was a masterpiece, back in the golden days of Lucasarts when they actually cared about their fans *cough*Full Throttle 2*cough*. Ah, great gaming memories.

What a game indeed. I still think the campaign was brilliant for that time. You had to take care of your own war effort according to which design you wanted to promote for the last days of the war and all depended if your industry remained on its feet.

LucasArts released ingame screenshots and gameplay details at E3 last year, but they announced last October that the project was cancelled (less than a month after the game was scheduled to be released). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Recently, they've even cancelled the sequel to Sam N' Max, which was showing promise.

It's a shame the old adventure games a'la ZacMcKraken, FullThrottle, Sam'n'Max, Police Quest etc are not getting attention from game producers.. they all kicked s and were hilarious. There's one of the oldies still in the works though: Larry. Magna *** Laude. Hope that doesn't get cancelled.

I spent hours and hours dreaming with these 3 sims. When LucasArts said they were to launch a new sim after so many years, I was really longing for it. And then, they release this SWON arcade ****... Ugh! That hurted...
