I totally agree. I'm on a P4 1.7, 1 gig ram and a ati radeon 9200 se 128 (about the crappiest ati card you can get, lol)but I get real decent framerates and the landscape and water look so much better (with this patch).

The only problem I still have is that it gets real choppy when viewing dust/smoke or waterexplosions, which is a real bummer. (anyone have a fix for that?)

Not all lower end machines :<

Neither of the tbirds here sees any benefit from it at all, probably since they're old enough to have already been optimised in the original compiler.

Change effects=1 to effects=0 in your conf.ini files opengl section to drop shadow rendering for explosions, water splashes, etc. You might also try dropping down the LandShading= setting to 1 or 0 and see if you get any extra frames.

Hello,
As this thread is for older machines I thought I might qualify http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

AMD 1900+ (1600Mhz), Gainward FX5700, 1 Gig ram, 7200 rpm disk, Audigy 2.

Pre-patch:
Black Death average 24 FPS

Post-patch:
Black Death (standard Exe) 26 FPS
Black Death (new exe) 27 FPS.

That's great - any increase is a bonus for this old box.

So, I would switch to using the new exe from now on but there is a problem! When flying the Pearl Harbour mission for the USN P40 using the new exe there is a loss of 10FPS or so every 2-3 seconds, i.e. FPS goes from 40 to 30 (or lower) every 2-3 seconds and then jumps back to 40. The result is that you stagger across the sky, the screen jerks every 2-3 seconds, as does the sound. It isn't nice so I'll be sticking with the constant FPS rate you get with the old/standard exe.

Explanation = I don't really know but it seems that Oleg might be experimenting with some form of caching for the display, especially the landscape. Cache in memory, not disk, as my hard disk does not go active when the 10 FPS drop occurs. Also, this seems (from my limited experimentation) to only effect the newer maps (pacific).

Anyway, this is what happens on my box; I don't have any complaints because I appreciate Oleg and crew experimenting on our behalf.

Good luck everyone with your tests on the new exe.

Yup, I know. Thing is, I did have an Nvidia Ti4400 until it melted a few months ago and Mr Gainward kindly replaced it free of charge with the FX5700. Good service from Gainward.

Well I have to say I have noticed some micro stutters with the new exe. I better check the old one and see whats up.

I have noticed this also Johann, with the new exe, I get stutters, but a 10 frame increase. Too bad those stutters are so big. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
